album immediately samples "seven wonders" and i think to myself "oh this must be the place"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 19:34 (ten years ago) link

Haha that's what it is. That's been bugging me all day.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 19:36 (ten years ago) link

Shy Child kind of got there first by immediately sampling "Everywhere" on their second album </sad fan boy>

Tim F, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 21:11 (ten years ago) link

another sample request: what's the female vocal that starts around 2:00 on dominoes?

caek, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:31 (ten years ago) link

Tarzan Boy?

MarkoP, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:35 (ten years ago) link

wow well spotted, totally thrown by the pitch shift

caek, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:39 (ten years ago) link

this album is fantastic btw

caek, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:40 (ten years ago) link

They're playing in my town tonight and I would kinda want to go see them but they're touring with/opening for the Presets who I can't fucking stand.

Dan I., Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:53 (ten years ago) link

ive had brunch w/ classixx twice but never seen them live

gr8080, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:56 (ten years ago) link

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:58 (ten years ago) link

had a go of this the other day, wasn't impressed really but will try again. feel like this has been done to death last few years.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 08:54 (ten years ago) link

it sounds like sally shapiro without the songs.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 08:58 (ten years ago) link

Yeah it kinda feels like they should have released this album three years ago, there's a real 'Magician-remixing-Cut-Copy' vibe to the whole thing. I mean it's an enjoyable record but it feels like a furrow that's been pretty comprehensively ploughed by now.

Keen students of the Daft Punk/Pharrell debate from three weeks ago should note that these are exactly the sort of terrible disco vocalists I was talking about. Who is this Jeppe guy that these dudes all bring in to honk over the top of their records? His unjustified land-grab is worse than Emeli Sande and Hitler, dammit.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 09:24 (ten years ago) link

yeah I like the album but DO YOU LIKE BASS is a bit of a turnoff

Number None, Thursday, 16 May 2013 09:42 (ten years ago) link

I'll give it another go today - I've tried twice and found it pleasant but switched to Random Access Memories or a DJ mix after two/three tracks.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 09:44 (ten years ago) link

i was/am not as deep in this scene, so it's newer to me and i'm enjoying it.

DO YOU LIKE BASS is vile tho.

caek, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:05 (ten years ago) link

lol the jeppe song has been a popular single for three or four years now

gr8080, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:12 (ten years ago) link

Yeah it's been knocking about for ages but I'd kind of blotted it out.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:13 (ten years ago) link

after living with a while i've downgraded this album to pleasant and enjoyable rather than WOW MUST HYPE but its high points are pretty high. definitely not as boring as random memories

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:14 (ten years ago) link

it's nice there's only 2/3 dance albums released a year so we can compare them all

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:26 (ten years ago) link

god forbid two retro-ish discoey dance albums that are released within a week of each other should be mentioned in the same sentence

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:30 (ten years ago) link

They aren't even trying to do the same thing though.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:42 (ten years ago) link

neither are most albums, yet people compare works in the same broad field all the time, as i'm sure both you and local garda have done many a time

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:44 (ten years ago) link

yeah I like the album but DO YOU LIKE BASS is a bit of a turnoff

Really enjoyed this on first listen last night but yeah, this. Pretty sure I'll skip that one next time around.

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:47 (ten years ago) link

i dig that song but also felt it didn't really fit with the album. felt like they tried to make an album edit of an already hugely popular single and the compromise didn't really pay off.

ppl should try the single version or the treasure fingers remix:

Not when the functional intention is totally different though. I'd have less problem comparing this to, say, the last Lindstrom album or a Permanent Vacation comp.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:10 (ten years ago) link

i didn't realise jeppe is the big lad from junior senior. i thought it was the bloke from shiny toy guns at first.

treasure fingers remix was good - reminding me of things like triple x 'feel the same', galleon, aloud etc.

nashwan, Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:13 (ten years ago) link

i didn't realise jeppe is the big lad from junior senior

Lol seriously?

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:17 (ten years ago) link

ha, i always wondered who jeppe was too

gr8080, Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:34 (ten years ago) link

"the big lad from junior senior"

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:40 (ten years ago) link

classixx have got him in to do a job on vocals

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:40 (ten years ago) link

Not sure Nancy Whang could do it on a wet Wednesday at Stoke, just saying.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:42 (ten years ago) link

what happens on wet wednesdays

gr8080, Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:45 (ten years ago) link

random access penalties

nashwan, Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:50 (ten years ago) link

Disco hoofs.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 11:51 (ten years ago) link

Yep. Jeppe is the Senior half of Junior Senior.

He's also cowrote Lady Gaga's Born This Way.

MarkoP, Thursday, 16 May 2013 12:11 (ten years ago) link

getting a lil' no doubt - spiderwebs vibe from nancy whang

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 17 May 2013 19:19 (ten years ago) link

this album is really cool, agreed it's lost much of its zeitgeist-y energy but it's a pretty strong record

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 17 May 2013 19:19 (ten years ago) link

opening track 3 min. mark is teh bomb

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 17 May 2013 19:20 (ten years ago) link

this whole thing is teh bomb

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Friday, 17 May 2013 19:26 (ten years ago) link

the sax is a real tease

Number None, Monday, 27 May 2013 23:23 (ten years ago) link

The entire album's a bit much but I really like the track with the the Fleetwood Mac Seven Wonders interpolation in it. (Hanging Garden?)

Doran, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 12:46 (ten years ago) link

one month passes...

with the nice weather this album is on constant rotation. hard to find fault with any of it really

Old Boy In Network (Michael B), Saturday, 13 July 2013 22:10 (ten years ago) link

yeah, it's perfect sugary summer bliss.
