I wasn't at this particular show, but I think a whole bunch of ILX0rs were at the one the next night (or maybe it was the night after that--it's hard to keep track?) Can STEVE SHASTA confirm?

Saw them three times. All good, all different.

First time was at Spanky's in Riverside CA in 1992.. this was the Brutal Truth, Boredoms, Pain Teens tour. Pain Teens cancelled due to Bliss Blood being sick, Brutal Truth headlined, so we got to see Boredoms but only after two perpetual bad metal bands opened... it was worth the wait.

Second was a the Whisky A Go Go in 1994 for the U.S. Pop Tatari tour. Trumans Water opened.

Third was at the first This Ain't No Picnic fest in 1999, which was the one where Sonic Youth got all their gear stolen.

i saw them on their 99 US tour (at the 9:30 Club in D.C., which still makes no sense to me...the place wasn't half full, could've easily fit in the Black Cat, but i digress). don't know what i was thinking, but i actually brought my fairly conservative (taste wise) Dad to it, and he loved them. i don't blame him, though - sometimes capital-a Amazing is just Amazing regardless of who you are. pretty much hands down the greatest live performance i've ever witnessed; think Super Ae x10, with 3 drummers going full tilt all the way through, total tribal groove. my favorite part of the night, toward the end, when eYe decided to share the mic with a kid up front, and they just took turns screaming back and forth, until it was clear that noone can compete with eYe in that category.

this is still probably my single favorite concert memory ever.

I drove five hours to see them live on their last tour. It was totally worth it.

I saw them on that 99 tour at the Crocodile... went at the behest of a friend, knowing almost nothing about them. To this day it remains the loudest, possibly most exciting show I've ever seen. I'm sure glad I got talked into that one.

I saw that tour in Portland at Crystal Ballroom. I've never seen anyone jump that high without a springboard or trampoline in my life.

It was rad.

i don't really know, was talking out of my ass. saw them at bowery ballroom and it happened. saw them at shepards bush empire and it happened. want to say it happened a third time somewhere, but i can't picture where it would have been so i guess i've only seen them perform twice.

I was a bit bummed that the Super Roots CD were selling for $20 each. I don't paying a little more at a show for something I can get at a local store, if it increases the chances of a band I love from coming back to tour here again. On the other hand, those Super Roots CDs are, what, 10 bucks elsewhere? 2x the normal price breaks my loyalty threshold. :/

you're cutting out the middleman and the band makes WAY more by selling htem to you directly.

Just went to the show last night in Chicago, and agreed about the prices being high, but I guess they have to make a living and it's a capitalist system, so if people are willing to pay it, go ahead. But yeah, $20 for Super Roots is quite much, especially when most of them aren't that long. I was more interested in some Yoshimi thing, but it was $40. There was also the Yoshimi and Mats Gustafsson collab for $30, which I think my local store had for $17 or $18. No Eye - Re: Remix though, sadly, but then that would have probably cost $40 too.

ANYWAY, the show itself was TREMENDOUS & SUPER, as everyone has said. It was my 2nd time seeing them, and having the 7-necked guitar thing added a lot to it, both musically and visually. And having the show in the round and being able to stand right beside the stage, specifically next to Eye's set-up was great. I can't believe he was still able to move around and even jump as much as he did with the broken foot. Very impressive indeed. Boredoms for life!

P.S. Does anyone have any idea about the music being played between bands? It was various tribal chant type stuff, probably just from comp's maybe, but I wouldn't mind checking out more of that kind of thing.

Hey, they can sell the CDs for any price they want! Whatever. But if they don't sell any because they're jacked too high, then that hurts the Bores too. Weak dollar sucks for anyone touring the U.S., whether the band is from the U.S. or not. Just sayin'.

Show was FANTASTIC yesterday, although not as completely mind-blowing as when I saw them at Intonation, despite lack of length/encore.

Other Music is very excited to be hosting an in-store performance with Japan's legendary Boredoms, who will be playing in the round on the shop floor this Monday, March 31st!! As you can imagine, space will be extremely limited, so starting today (Friday) at 6:00PM, we're going to give single-person passes to the first 50 people who come into the shop and purchase their new album Super Roots 9, out on Thrill Jockey (one CD per customer -- sorry, no web orders). Your receipt will be your ticket, which you'll need to have with you to gain entrance on Monday night.

I dunno if sales to the show are that crazy, honestly.

I'm gonna be completely honest - I saw them last night in DC and I was bored outta my fucking mind. Not even the good kind of bored where you can go to sleep, but the kind where you get really agitated and can't sit still. I've seen them before and enjoyed it. I don't think it's that the show got worse (although maybe it did a little bit from the shit they were doing a couple years ago), but I think I'm outgrowing any kind of "experimental" music. I used to love the shit, but now I just like old plain-ass country rock.
