Amazingly not a single post about this lot on ILM. Utterly beguiling, hands in the air indie friendly electro dribble, however don't let that put you off as they also wrote Britney's Toxic.

I like the new album - it's the same idea as Passion Pit, but nowhere near as annoying.

The opening melody line from A Horse Is Not A Home sounds really familiar - where do I recognise it from?

Officially a mike snow shipper? Stan? Whatever means in the tank for lately. This is all because I got my wife to like yelle, my daughter got into the yelle channel on pandora (she's 2) and that channel likes to play "animal" from time to time. Then paddling out came on and I was sold for life

So, uh, how do I pronounce this? Miike like Takashi or (the way I've heard a couple of people say it) just a slightly drawn-out "Mike"? I had like no interest in this at all but decided to check it out after hearing the guy's going to be on Creep's debut album...

I like them quite a bit and think a bit under-rated. I especially like the synth contraption the use in this clip.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xilzSUrgUgs

Especially when dude's dungarees inexplicably become lederhosen after surgery. That is exactly a metaphor for a thing that happened to me. And I have a bigger nose now than I used to

Any further love or hate for these guys? I'm in the former camp myself. Love the two records they've put out and think they do a smarter job than most of marrying songcraft to electronic production. Singing, arrangements and textures are all super tasteful. Lyrics are largely nonsense, but there are probably less than a handful of acts in that sphere whose words I would rate anyway.

so the single has a video that has been found excellent by some, but not I
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_SlAzsXa7E
I find the lyrics boring and possessive and not at all what I like about this band - song would be listenable otherwise, but oh well, it's about being a fucked up stalker, no stars for you
Then I listened to the rest of the album and it only gets worse! It really sounds like they ran out of ideas in the worst way; some of the best stuff on the first two was when they called back to James Bond themes and Deee-Lite house piano riffs, and they apparently gave that up for sounding like I don't know, useless anodyne bullshit apparently.
There are tracks on the first two albums that are salvaged by having lyrics weird and quasi-meaningful enough to escape production ideas that start out well but don't seem finished, i.e. Devil's Work, A Horse Is Not A Home.
On reflection: is III just a contract record, the American songwriter guy just emailed it in, and somebody got paid to make a cool video out of the one track that didn't suck?
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 03:45 (eight years ago) link
It really sounds like Andrew Wyatt (does he have a nickname? no. nobody knows who this guy is. despite the fact that he made ANIMAL and PADDLING OUT but whatever nobody knows who EYE YAMANTAKA is either so I guess) just scribbled down some luv-u drunken date night pablum, sang it in over skype and then the swedes just cut it in over some leftovers.
Somebody explain me this wasn't a contractually obligated record. No other reason to just burp this leftover out after three years. The face that Ghenghis Khan is even passable as a dance pop single is a complete accident.

if this album was an oscar-nominated film I'd be happily explicating its redeeming values on ILE because I got to watch it on a tiny little airplane seatback screen for freeInstead I got to pay for it and now I'm disgusted at show business machinery like I'm fucking nineteen years oldLife is just amazing folks you got to appreciate it
