Animal Collective's "Fall be Kind"

I'm quite surprised there's no thread about this already.
I find it pretty solid although not as amazing as MPP. Still, I have had one or another part of these songs stuck in my head ever since I got it.
Right now I love "Sky", the peruvian flutes part in "Graze" and "I think I can"'s final.
What are your thoughts ?

I'm steadfast in my position that they're the best band of the decade, but I don't care about this at all. They were always this band that pushed in new directions, but they've become stagnant in the past year or so. Their live shows have become less experimental and it seems they aren't writing at the same pace they used to.

Or maybe I just burned out on them.

Sky is awesome, remembered it from Glastonbury this year.

ppl have been talking about this in the MPP thread.

the time signature on "sky" is pretty fun. it makes the song sound like a scratched vinyl playing in circle.

oh wait this is a redundant thread apparently

seeing them on the MPP tour, i had never heard 'sky' before and was mesmerized by the broken breakbeat

the rest of the songs were meh ...kinda like bad versions of the recorded stuff. it was disappointing after being in complete awe during a pre-MPP set where they were playing proto versions of the songs.

so i guess i'm wondering how much does familiarity and expectation play into the live show when it comes to lol innovators like animal collective?

basically unless you've been following the tour through live boots you will know maybe two of the songs they play at any given show. they always seem to be about one album ahead in their live sets.

Glasto show this year was quite Strawberry Jam-heavy, even though MPP had been out a while.

Okay, I've listened to this about 20 times since I got it and I think it's among their best releases overall. Better than MPP by a stretch. At least Graze, What Would I Want and On A Highway are classics already.

You can add "I think I can" !
although there is no "hit" like "brother sport" and "my girls", it's a great collection of songs. somehow, it reminds me more of "strawberry" than "MPP". Overall, it's more Avey than Panda (only "I think I can" ?), right ?

three years pass...

I always thought the Dead vocal on 'Sky' was Weir but it is in fact Lesh.
