Underestimated strategy here, tbh, in that I both didn't vote for things that I like that had good chances of placing b/c I figured they were "safe bets" (a la Blame It, or whatever) and wasted votes on stuff that I liked and wanted to rep for which realistically had no traction (Ellie, VV Brown, Yeasayer). Lessons Learned for Next Year, I suppose. 7/20 on the list isn't bad, esp. given that we almost got Fancy into the top ten.

i very nearly had a no-crossover rule between albums and trax ballots; made exceptions for "drink in my cup" because it was such a huge part of my year, and "fancy" because it's, you know, "fancy"

Tannenbaum, thanks. Yours too (just went upthread and looked) -- it's probably not original to say this, but I love the individual lists more than the aggregated poll results. Something I've noticed is the increase in range of musical styles on my own lists. Anyone else notice this? I'm not sure I was ever a full-on corny indie fuxxor, or a full-on potimist or whatever, but I think a higher proportion of one style (just indie or just chart pop) would have been on earlier lists. Now, I don't actually pay any attention to genre until afterward (like, um, now) and it's kind of interesting. The danger, I suppose, is becoming so much of a dilettante that you just hop briefly into something, absorbing none of the depth or context. I mean, sometimes I'm overwhelmed by the sheer volume of great music out there. I don't know, it's probably a getting-older thing, time is more finite, etc. Which is probably better than complaining about how music today ain't how it once was... you kids and your musical shuffle pods, etc...
