so, although many music fans don't seem to know, the FBB carried on after gram left to make solo records. the albums are pretty obscure these days. but i find it hard to believe they are without merit. chris hillman is a great musician, and the replacement, rick roberts, was quite talented as well.

so who has heard these records and what do you make of 'em?

Studio albums:
The Flying Burrito Brothers (1971)
Flying Again (1975)
Airborne (1976)
Hearts on the Line (1981)
Sunset Sundown (1982)
Eye of a Hurricane (1994)
California Jukebox (1997)
Honky Tonkin' aka Sons of the Golden West (1999)

Live albums:
Last of the Red Hot Burritos (1972)
Sin City (1976)
Flying Burrito Brothers '76 (1976)
From Another Time (1976)
Close Encounters to the West Coast (1978)

apparently hillman only carried on with a single burritos album post-gram, the s/t one. the rest are various reformed configurations.

s/t is a great Burritos record. "Hand to Mouth" and "Colorado" alone would make it classic.

+1

Nearly my fave - I know 'Gilded' and 'Deluxe' are *better*, but it's the go-to Burritos record for me for the last few years.

the non-hillman stuff on the various compilations I've wound up with over the years has been pretty corny iirc

I really do think it's better than Deluxe, and it's still a much fresher album to me than Gilded Palace, which I've listened to nearly to death.

well after doing some reading on the subject it seems some of the later incarnations of the FBB had no original members whatsoever. which doesn't NECESSARILY mean they suck, but would seem to point in the direction of mediocrity, at the least.

OTM. Also, not sure what album it's on, but "Wind and Rain" (a Gene Parsons song) is a classic

on the basis of a few mid-eighties youtubes, I am going to say dud
They do "Mr. Spaceman," "It Makes No Difference" & "Cash on the Barrelhead"
& seem mostly like an average cover band or whatever besides sneaky pete on the steel guitar, although apparently he wasn't always at gigs

if they had no actual connection to Gram, Chris, or hell, even Michael Clarke, why call it the Flying Burrito Brothers? Just call it something else

there are a bunch of albums w/o even sneaky pete, so it was a completely different lineup from that of the 1st two albums

because it was easier to get bookings with the FBB name?

Weren't they like the Rat Pack in that the group of people to originally have the name precedes and is different to the classic line-up anyway?
