Come anticipate Missy Elliott's Block Party album in 2012

I could've started this thread in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 or 2011, but was waiting until some actual news.

ACTUAL NEWS

Missy Elliott and Timbaland will both launch new albums this summer, Timbaland told MTV News.

"Me and Missy are both coming out with our albums at the same time, and it will be in June," he said. "Right now, we're just preparing to get both our videos, our first singles shot at the same time. We want to do it as a movement."

While Timbaland has stayed prominent in recent years with solo efforts such as "Shock Value II," Elliott hasn't released an album since 2005's "The Cookbook."

In the interim, she revealed that she'd been diagnosed with Graves' disease, an autoimmune disorder.

"I'm 30 pounds lighter because I've been exercising." the MC told People last year. "My thyroid is functioning, so I haven't had to take medication in about nine months. [But] you live with it for the rest of your life."

The dual album release is the latest collaboration in the duo's lengthy musical relationship, which has spawned such hits as "Get Ur Freak On" and Aaliyah's "I Care 4 U."

"People always ask if we're still working together, and the answer is we will always work together," Elliott told Billboard in a previous interview about the new album, then titled "Block Party." "He's always going to be involved, even if it is just on one record. That's my brother. I respect and honor what he says."

It's more newsy than her Wikipedia page being corrected every year. At least Timbaland is actually saying shit on camera.

That said, her most recent appearances have been that execrable Katy Perry Remix, etc.

Nervously anticipating, hope it turns out something awesome. It's been too long since we've had some Missy singles floating about. Curious to see where she fits in on the charts in 2012.

The Cookbook is better than This Ain't A Test and about as good as Under Construction imo

oh helllllllll no. That album had it's moments for sure but it was a mess overall. I still don't understand how peeps around here underrate Under Construction so much.

the last 3 albums are all fine, just on a lower tier than the first 3 imo. i'm probably a little tough on Under Construction but it was very overrated at the time and is more singles+filler-ish than its predecessors

With Missy, like Erykah, the album I tend to rate the lowest now in retrospect is the debut.

This Is Not A Test only avoids that fate because its singles sound like filler.

Other ways in which ILM is useful: there are a bunch of dudes that, if they don't like a record, it's almost guaranteed that I will.

Whether or not the new album is good or bad I'm overwhelmed with happiness that she's back making music

It was a bad time for the Empire ILX.

No one is ever as uncool as they are a decade after their peak.

Under Construction is probably my favorite album of hers. The Cookbook isn't amazing, but it isn't bad, there's way too many good songs on it.

I just scanned the track list and remembered "On & On."

when she revealed the Graves disease a few months ago it sounded like her condition had improved to the point that she was all good to resume her career

i was reluctant to listen to this cause she sounded awful to me on that janet feature but this is, perfectly great? can't tell if it will become a smash or if the hook will dig in as deep as the classics but it sounds like good missy elliott music. and yeah this beat is better than any timbo beat in how many years?

Missy is all too aware of the impact and influence someone of that stature can have on the youth.

This has been sneaking up on my brain a lot lately. Pharrell's verse continues to not grow on me though. How's it doing out there in the world?

i have heard it on the radio a couple times, but always in the late after-midnight hours, which is when they tend to play songs by new "unproven" artists :\

i like the single though i continue to loathe pharrell. its the kind of thing i almost expect someone to tell me was produced by a non hip hop producer. or some non-current, non-american, producer. kind of a hark back to under construction. i dont think shes exactly an albums artist, but id rank her albums thus - Miss E... So Addictive, Supa Dupa Fly, Da Real World. not sure about the last three, but the cookbook is prob the worst (though even that has lose control so...).

I haven't heard radio since my vehicle's been out of commision but this is the song I've seen the best reaction to in clubs in the past couple months.

Yeah, it feels like she's trying too hard to make something on-trend instead of something reflective of her artistic persona.

Visuals great, verses aren't bad I think but the hook is sooooo boring that it's hard to get motivated to listen to it again to where the details of what Missy is doing would actually sink in and stick with me.

Listening to Supa Dupa Fly this afternoon (which came out 20 years ago!) and it still sounds so good, both the songs and the production. For all her great singles and songwriting, I don't think she ever made a better album -- but that's not a knock, it's just that I love SDF so much.

Who else have you been working with?

Timbaland, of course, and then the guy Lamb. I kinda keep my circle small because there’s not a lot of people who think crazy or weird like Missy. I’m sure there is, but I haven’t ran across ones that think weird like me. When it comes to working with outside producers, it’s very small.
