was expecting this to be on some bullshit but i seriously fuck with this
the one thing i really dig is that you don't normally hear these kind of beats in hi-fi in rap music. there's a lot of space in these beats, you can kinda pick everything out.

I haven't been able to bring myself to care about this really. Hate HudMo and Lunice never quite lives up to his potential.

i tend to think of it - like rustie - more as prog-jazz influenced IDM that steals some rap music tricks than as the idm-rap music fusion some people make it out to be
or like jan hammer : stevie wonder :: hudmo : actual rap producers
― the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 06:26 (eleven years ago) link
or r&b or what have you
he doesnt like rustie either iirc
― flopson, Sunday, 16 September 2012 16:49 (eleven years ago) link
not really, i don't think you'd have trouble in a blind test picking out rustie vs hudmo, but i don't think it would be off base to say they're mining a similar vein
― the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 18:34 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, I pretty much dislike them for the same reason. They both have this garish, in-your-face, trebly synth thing going on. He seems to have toned it down for this project tho. I guess of the two of them, HudMo's the maximalist and Rustie's the minimalist, but that distinction is rather here nor there for me.
― tuomas without a nose ring (The Reverend), Sunday, 16 September 2012 22:58 (eleven years ago) link
oh sorry flops, i thought you said "he doesn't sound like rustie"
yeah i like those garish synths but i ESPECIALLY like those super-fake sounding 80s synth drums they use

its funny though cause you like silkie and swindle and the rest of the purple wow crew, i thought?
I like Silkie and Swindle, but their vibe is a bit different. More elegant, less neon. I associate the phrase "purple wow" (rightly or wrongly) mostly with Joker tho, I just think his beats are mostly boring.
Is this purple wow tho? It's one of my favorite dubstep tracks.

no, i don't think so, it doesn't have those crazy spiraling synths
i think of this as the penultimate purple track

you kind of hit it on the head when you said "more elegant, less neon"
what's wrong w/ a little neon though

there's also this one, which i won't like so as to avoid spamming up the place: http ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f90E84rOzmc
i think hudmo and rustie are like if you swallowed some of this and swallowed some 80s era jan hammer and jean michel jarre and sheila e and chick corea band and then explosively shat it out all over the place

v appealing imagery, i know
Ha, "Digidesign" is the a-side of the record I linked. I've always loved the sound of it but like I said earlier, wished it had a better beat. The Rustie solo track sounds even more rhythmically stilted to me. "Play Doe" is great tho, never heard it before. I love that Busta Rhymes grunt. It's got a lot more bounce, too.
