Some great stuff to kick off the New Year - new Blockheads and Cloud Rat for starters. And Nails have a three-song taster out this month for their forthcoming new album; they sound less grind than I remember but I'll have to relisten to Unsilent Death before making any judgements. What else are you grinding to this cold January?
― wronger than 100 geir posts (MacDara), Thursday, 10 January 2013 08:49 (eleven years ago) link
I love Nails but I've never thought of them as grind, more of a crusty UKHC (despite where they're from).

Downloaded Nolentia's May The Hand That Holds The Match That Will Set This World On Fire Be Blessed Above All but haven't listened to it yet.
Also, anybody who doesn't already have the Defeatist discography, they've put it all (three full-lengths - one of which compiles several EPs - and a split) on Bandcamp for pay-what-you-want. I interviewed Aaron Nichols of Defeatist back in 2011 - sharp, funny dude. They were a great band.

been acquiring hella grind lately but almost all of it from the 90s, so I kinda wanna get some newer releases.

Liking Baptists' "Bushcraft." Wouldn't say there's anything too original on display (although there are some nicely weird guitar touches) but executed with a lot of conviction and clear, direct production. I like the fast ones better than the doomy ones (the album starts with one of the weakest tracks, imho).
― summervillain, Wednesday, 13 March 2013 13:07 (eleven years ago) link
I reviewed the Baptists record last month. I dig it a lot too, though I wouldn't class it at grind - not enough blastbeats! Much more Convergy than anything else, but as I wrote that isn't a bad thing.

Houston, Texas' Pretty Little Flower ( P.L.F.) is an unrelenting grind outfit that's been melting faces since 1998. This band constructs music that's loaded with manic and complex thrash riffs that mix with intense and violent drum bursts with blown out bass chaos throughout. This crushing display of grindcore is simply amazing and with the added element of crossover-thrash it's even more of a plus to hear. Get hooked on these guys if you haven't already. I thought this sick/tired lp was fun:https://sick-tired.bandcamp.com/album/king-of-dirt-12-lp

Not sure it 100% fits in this thread, but the Electric Funeral reissue/compilation on Southern Lord is great. One-man D-beat soaked in so much fuzz and feedback it'll give you a brain tumor.

Longhena is basically the first grind record I've gotten super into. I've enjoyed Napalm Death and stuff in the past, but I never replayed them to the point where the songs really opened up and revealed themselves. It's cool when something that initially sounds like a blur of noise becomes clear and enunciated with further listens.

Yeah that's really good - I was worried with the tinniness of the drums and the lack of bass heft on the first track, but I have to say the sound really grew on me. Helps that the music's interesting, not just tap-tap-tap-blast-BUZZZZZZZ-GAHHHHHHRGH!

Did anyone hear this Tellusian album, Collision? http://tellusian.bandcamp.com/
I'm really liking it. It's proggy and melodic, not all that intense, with lots of noodly bass and catchy riffs that don't take up too much space. "Wolf in Sheep's Medicine" is what grabbed me first.
I was looking for more weird techy grindcore. This is extremely far from Gridlink, but good stuff too, though to be honest it sounds as much like shortened DM to me.

I'm looking for noisy crust stuff, anyone have any suggestions? Like I was listening to Warpriest and they have some great moments of weird noisiness and one brief instrumental that almost hits Buzzoven territory before it fades out. I guess I'm looking for sort of slightly sludgy crust stuff that doesn't get entirely hung up in slow tempos. Also just general noisiness is a plus.
