with a producer and without Zach Hill it sounds calmer, more Deerhoof style, and great.

This is such a bad name I think it might go all the way back to being great.

She teased a third disappointing song from the album today. I am not liking easy-listening Marnie at all.

Album isn't as bad as I feared. It's very warm and sweet and tuneful, though I definitely miss the sense of peril her previous albums had

yeah it's pretty good, a less edgy and more tuneful record. a somewhat new direction for marnie stern, but nothing new for the casual listener.

i present two sides: my hopelessness and my faith, my ego and my heart, my feelings and my brain
yeah this is a good album, not sure why no one's talking about it

Chronicles is really good, but it's also a lesser version of the last album in a lot of ways, which makes it harder to get excited about it

bummed i haven't gotten to see the live show

i want to love her but i just don't

that's ok, she's strong enough not to need your love

I haven't listened to the new one enough to have a good sense of it. It seems likable, but so far it hasn't grabbed me. I guess I've already filed her in the category of people who I only really need a few albums by, and for me it's the first two.

From Kill Rock Stars weekly update:
Marnie Stern will be shredding on national television EVERY NIGHT FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, sitting in on guitar with the 8g Band on NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers! Put on your Win 'Marnie Win' shirt and tune in at 12:35am every weeknight from now until June 13th.
Marnie was also interviewed by Maura Johnston for Rolling Stone's Young Guns feature, which focuses on some of the best new generation of guitar heroes. Marnie speaks about teaching guitar classes, changes in her technique, and the writing process for her next album. Click here to read the article. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/marnie-stern-exercises-her-mind-wit-and-fingers-20140602
Marnie's next show is June 13th at Rough Trade NYC. Her most recent album, The Chronicles of Marnia, is available on compact disc and LP (choose yellow OR black vinyl!) from our mail-order store and digitally at our Bandcamp page. Wish it was the Tonight Show, because then she could sit in with the Roots, but I'll check the Myers anyway.

Seth barely talks to anyone in the band when Fred Armisen isn't there, and they play such boring music. Unless something changes since the last time Marnie was there, it's not worth staying up that late.
