I really liked My Chemical Romance. Sad to see them go. They were one of the ultimate if I had have been 14 or 15 when they came out I would have loved them. The Black Parade is the really good album but I didn't even mind the weird pop album they did a couple of years ago either. In my experience, always unfailingly nice guys as well.

um, start new bands? every high profile breakup seems to produce 2-3 splinter bands/solo projects.

the fact that they've only made one album in the last 6 years should've been a tipoff, i guess. loved everything they did except The Black Parade, RIP.

they were fantastic in a "never change, you adorable babies" sort of way

I'm having a sudden 'where has the time gone' moment realizing that a band specifically formed in response to 9/11 has had an entire mainstream career from start to finish since. Just a year younger than ILX as a whole.

Hm, listening now, Black Parade does seem to hold up a little better as an album than Cheers.

Three Cheers is the only album of theirs I own - really fun record. also, "Helena" and "I'm Not OK" are two of my favourite videos of the 00s.

Love the way Gerard's a rebooted/fixed Billy Corgan re: US glam anglophilia; glittery Roxy-Music-at-the-mall vibes.

In stuff like "Brother" I also get a strong Todd Rundgren in classicist pop mode vibe.

also I only just heard the Japan bonus tracks for Danger Days and it's criminal that they didn't make the album proper

this was the greatest band of all time

none of their albums were perfect but: the sheer volume of ideas in each one! they were accused at the time of (and i even thought of them as) being another indistinguishable mass of mall emo but: no one sounded like them, especially by three cheers, that hybridized glam/arena rock/hardcore thing was theirs, and they made three very different albums that somehow found a new way to explore that dynamic every time. (and they also shelved a pretty decent one!) sidenote the jump in quality from the debut to three cheers, the feeling that their music had been sharpened down into this perfectly-edged thing, is so fun to experience
