i mean, it is insensitive. you're talking about a bunch of upper class art school haircuts selling you their idea of the "future" in the form of j-pop theft
i'm glad you think your progressive

YES THIS
"Foil Deer" raises the stakes (no pun intended, I swear) in the best possible ways

Mainlander?
― flappy bird, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:58 (nine years ago) link
Is the album as good as The Graduates?
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:58 (nine years ago) link
"mainlander" = college rock bands situated in a local area
(my word for it)
i went on Urban Dictionary and apparently that term has offensive connotations. didn't mean that. doh

Thanks for the Mitski tip. I'm a sucker for this kind of style and the songs/lyrics/persona are more distinct/memorable than most. This is what I'm hoping the new Waxahatchee album will be like (when I get around to hearing it).

a little bit of Tilt in her voice.

it was thanks to you that we discovered her! shuffle find on the traxpoll spotify, instant liking
(this is where my gf informs me that she knew about her already or w/e but you still did well nominating her)
now back to speedy ortiz, this is one of the strongest opening salvos to an album in recent memory, 'raising the skate' is a fucking classic indie rock song already
― PORC EPIC SAVVAGE (imago), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 17:41 (nine years ago) link
mitski sucks
god i hate mainlander, emo bullshit with boring crunchy guitars
only now listening to the mitski album and as a fan of emo bullshit with boring crunchy guitars this is a very uncharitable and inaccurate description of the record itself
it's pretty good

'my dead girl' is the lower-order classic on this album, based on 2 listens, but it really is all great
― PORC EPIC SAVVAGE (imago), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 18:07 (nine years ago) link
yeah "my dead girl" is amazing

I was already sold, Major Arcana was one of my favorite records of the past few years, but this is even better, I'm over the moon.
― Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 20:45 (nine years ago) link
This is a superior quality piece of 90s Matador nostalgia but I'm not sure I'd care if it wasn't for the singer, she tips it away from just being a slavish recreation of a sound. Still, this is the best time of year to listen to this sort of thing, and I'm enjoying it.

wonder why anyone would listen to whiney anyway

Dupuis explained (kind of...) a bunch of her songs on genius.com and it's quite interesting, the story behind My Dead Girl adds a whole other layer for me.

o they are lovely live! started off playing the songs maybe 20% slower than on the record but then the weed wore off
they have such chops; they make a muscular racket with such clarity. awesome band
and they man their own merch stand! my gf and I gave Dupuis a note at the end recommending Cardiacs as she's such a Blur fan - hopefully she will give them a try!
― twunty fifteen (imago), Wednesday, 21 October 2015 23:25 (eight years ago) link
man i can't stand this band anymore. the whole hotline thing was so embarrassing, what a cynical push for a floundering album cycle. sadie's got a solo album coming out in november, the lead single is about consent, christ...
