so far not a lot of standout moments for me, but i love the pretty, reich-ish arpeggio sections, like whatever song starts at 33:00.

love the in media res beginning too (fake jungle rush alert, although it's 160)

Are you really that nonplussed by it? It doesn't feel any less dancefloor focussed than, say, a Field or Gold Panda album. In fact that whole middle section - from Kool Aid through to Aerial, feels pretty dancey. Or at least, he's putting house and techno and various post-garage genres through his usual aural hipstamatic filter.

I can understand feeling disappointed if "beauty" is all you go to Four Tet for but this is rhythmically and texturally interesting enough as it is. I'm usually faintly irritated by the doe eyes that Four Tet records usually seem to be pulling, so I'm quite happy with one that makes you work a bit harder.

What's the deal with the distribution of this?

My local independent record shop seem (genuinely) upset not to be stocking the album.

I'm also underwhelmed. Seems to me the album is a bit of blur until the HEY HEY HEY, which is annoyingly mixed way too loud and ruins Kool FM for me

I keep meaning to listen to that given I like pretty much everything Woolford has put his name to with the exception of his actual album, which is pretty clunky.

3 day xpost to Matt: any nonplussed-ness was only temporary as I was getting to grips with it, I think. Pretty much in full agreement with what you're saying now.

Yeah, this album takes a while to get going. The first three tracks feel like doodles compared to what comes later.

as someone who finds a lot of his stuff beautiful but bland and a bit too samey/pretty, i like this album a lot. its dancey, but very detailed, structurally, but without it sounding anal. its the sort of thing he does better than i ever imagined he could/would.
