love that warpaint cover, kind of indifferent about the other

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 3 December 2013 16:43 (ten years ago) link

Nice start to the thread, that Warpaint is fantastic and has me even more anxious to hear it.

an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 3 December 2013 16:50 (ten years ago) link

Is "WARPAINT" slightly askew? Like the T is higher than the W? Could just be my eyes finding the red on black tough.

correcto, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 17:13 (ten years ago) link

wow, "chambers" cover is outstanding

marcos, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 17:13 (ten years ago) link

actually though everything is great "chambers" except for the words, i think it'd like it better if it was just the image without the words

marcos, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 17:14 (ten years ago) link

Is "WARPAINT" slightly askew?

I think it is.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 17:18 (ten years ago) link

warpaint cover is by chris cunningham

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 3 December 2013 18:02 (ten years ago) link

Love the Warpaint one.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 19:20 (ten years ago) link

IDGI. Seems pretty generic-ethereal to me? With a nod to the old 'many heads in one' cover trope. I don't dislike it at all, I just don't see what there is to love.

emil.y, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 20:44 (ten years ago) link

agree

marcos, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 20:45 (ten years ago) link

I love multiple exposure photo art, so whether it's new/novel or not is irrelevant imo. It looks neato.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 20:49 (ten years ago) link

It's just beautiful. The colors are amazing. Look at that swath of red going from the one shirt to the next - and onto some hair?

Frederik B, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 20:52 (ten years ago) link

They look like smoke. The black border gives it a 1980s cassette feel or something

how's life, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 21:00 (ten years ago) link

And the shade of green almost reminds me of Dr.Feelgood. The Chambers cover looks nice too.

how's life, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 21:03 (ten years ago) link

I'm afraid I don't have any deeper reason than I like how it looks.

Thanks for this info; I have been a bunch of her work this afternoon. Some beautiful stuff.

I also love that she would walk into the sea with her camera sounds like it could totally be a Silver Mt. Zion album title a la the above cover

"Fun ft. Chris Brown"

I reject this one just on its face. There is NO WAY you can have fun with Chris Brown.

Also, I love there's a song called "Day Drinking" on the same album that features a song from an animated children's movie.

Is this a straight-up After Dark rip or was the After Dark cover based on something else?

I think the After Dark cover was definitely mimicking an aesthetic, but was original art.

if it was a photo it would be some sub-corny-indie garbage but as a painting i think it rules. btw i have no idea who it even is

marcos, Monday, 15 December 2014 17:06 (nine years ago) link

I haven't seen it in person but I suspect Ghettoville is all about the packaging, ppl on discogs complaining about how cheap and rough it is and how it damages the records

brimstead, Monday, 15 December 2014 19:40 (nine years ago) link

i guess a million noise acts probably already wrote the book w/r/t "sculptural" packaging, though

brimstead, Monday, 15 December 2014 19:42 (nine years ago) link

lion lady = the cover art for Single's Rea, painted by their labelmate Javier Aramburu from the band Family. the rough American equivalent would be Devendra Banhart painting Joanna Newsom's face on a wolf's body, whereupon Joanna gushed about how "it's so empowering!" and "wolf is my spirit animal!"

it's very much a corny indie gesture, but I like it

yusef latifah (unregistered), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 04:13 (nine years ago) link

There's an album cover I've been looking around for on these threads and other album cover lists but I can't find it.
It's from sometime in the past two years. A close-up of a guy's head with his mouth open, covered in shiny paints of different colours.

Sounds like something Battles would do. Except I don't think their album covers have people on them.
