i have to admit that after years of adhering to a no patterns or garish colors rule i am sort of hankering for some kind of well-designed hawaiian print shirts

I thought we got complimentary shirts w aloha friday

obv context is a big part of fashion/style so wearing a garish hawaiian print in a continental metropolis isnt the crime it is here

yeah i realize the connotations are way different, although again i still mostly think of homers 'gay guys or big fat party animals' rule w/r/t hawaiian shirts...

when i looked at the stuff you linked i was sorta sad to see it was mostly fairly muted colors/patterns with that faded, washed out look. lots of like navajo print stuff thats around did the same thing really backgrounded whats interesting about the prints in order to make them more wearable? idk.

yeah i agree. trying too hard to make it 'tasteful' when thats not really the point i dont think

my dad just sold a 90s rayon hawaiian thing on ebay for 60£. crazy.

that's what you wear here! lots of manufacturers actually sew shirts inside out, so the print is on the inside, and the muted reverse is on the outside.

on the left, right-side out (the way it was designed to be worn) and on the right inside-out (for lols)

stevie, i think a lot of classic 'fun shirts' on the 2ndary market are gonna be from brooks bros, whose shirts tend to have a very generous, almost blousy cut, so take that as you will. also any decent ebay seller will provide garment measurements

they are sometimes listed as 'patchwork' instead of 'fun' which means you can also see stuff like this:

no the one i posted two photos of is a thrift store find, as are p much all of my non-work ones.

i bet if a dedicated a few hundred bucks and a few weekends of shopping/posting, i could ride this trend to a v v lucrative eBay store fast

and yes nothing breaks my heart more than seeing a beautiful print in a size that fits me then realizing its rayon/polyester

Personally find the full Hawaiian a bit much, but have been looking for a twist on it that I like. I have a few floral print shirts with a more small-scale regular print, which prob suits me more.

those are actually up my street, yeah grady. i like vahid's second one above too.

i can see how that one you just posted would potentially be nice btw vahid, not really the style i like but i have seen people wearing similar. i sort of think a bit of the problem is london this summer is raining all the time too, most prints i'm wearing is with a blazer or underneath a cardigan.

it looks a lot like shirts my dad wears though and he has weird ideas about proportion

xp I'm completely allergic to AllSaints as a brand but I can see how someone (not me) could look great in that shirt.

TLG - that tori richard shirt has the potential to be cool but its a crazy longshot-- like i can hypothetically see someone pulling it off but the odds are so stacked in "lame"'s favor i'd avoid it imo

if it looks weird it's because the palm tree is coming up toward you, the mirror is leaning sharply away and i'm holding my arms out farther than it looks

but yeah "fun shirts" got hookups in thailand and indonesia of all places
