Earthquaker Pitch Bay polyphonic dirt machine

also Mooer has released a Boss Slow Gear clone (which i have and it is awesome) and leaked plans for a DOD juice box clone i think judging from the graphics (!) and a micro looper.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:18 (ten years ago) link

craptons of stuff from electroharmonix.

Nano Big Muff pi
Soul Food Klon clone (yeah we'll see, i am dubious)
Lumberjack Logarithmic Overdrive (this sounds pretty nuts, fairly into it)
Satisfaction Fuzz (like the song duh)
EHX Tortion (jfet based overdrive, could be cool if they do it right)
East River Drive (TS clone snore but hey its super cheap)
OD Glove (a distortoverdrive. idk.)
Hot Tubes (old school hot tubes reissue, not to be confused with the one with actual tubes in it)
Holy Grail Max (holy grail plus plate and reverse settings, hopefully will not share og holy grails penchant for blowing up all the time)
Slammi (whammy pedal done in that weird accelerometer gyroscope dealy they have been miling for a year. still have never ordered a single one of this series because they weird me out and seem annoying)
Crying Bass (wah/fuzz, see above)

ordered all of them, except for the slammi/crying bass, so i will let people know as they drift in

Pigtronix releasing Echolution 2 and Echolution 2 DLX for $299 and $399 respectively. which appear to be editable using your magic computer machine or something.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 22:29 (ten years ago) link

So yeah, at least initially it looks like a bunch of companies woke from slumber this year.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 22:35 (ten years ago) link

Great. Any new guitars, or are Gibson, Fender, etc. still too wary to start making interesting stuff again?

time is a train that make the future flag post (snoball), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 22:40 (ten years ago) link

ha gibson and fender dont like me very much so i cant answer that at this point. lots of reverend stuff coming down the pike though, and some eastwood surprises too.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 22:44 (ten years ago) link

Walrus Audio Descent Reverb, 8 knobs, mini switch, not on the site yet so thats all i can tell you.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 22:48 (ten years ago) link

hahaha ibanez appears to be releasing yet another signature guitar for...that dumb head dude from Korn. jesus christ.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 22:50 (ten years ago) link

ok, the new stuff at namm brochure from ibanez is 60 pages long, multiple things on every page. i think this might be the year that namm across the board isnt super super boring.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Saturday, 18 January 2014 16:08 (ten years ago) link

fair amount of new reverend stuff, including a signature bass (that maybe has already been leaked but i am playing it safe), 2 new signature guitars, tons of color additions, new pickup configs etc.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Saturday, 18 January 2014 16:10 (ten years ago) link

oh hey, they already leaked so now i dont have to feel bad: http://www.guitarsite.com/news/electric_guitar/reverend-guitars-debut-6-new-models-namm2014/

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Saturday, 18 January 2014 16:22 (ten years ago) link

that spacehawk is hurting my brain. also they continue the tradition of making sig guitars for people that deserve them rather than "unit mover" artists thx to the meshell ndegeocello fellowship bass

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Saturday, 18 January 2014 16:24 (ten years ago) link

re: spacehawk - do people still want kill/stutter switches on guitars?

Wow they finally managed to make a video that typifies everything I hate about the modern era of fender

Yngwie

Signature
Clip on
Tuner

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 24 January 2014 01:49 (ten years ago) link

what kind of dick buys that solderless strat. (i think i know what kind of dick buys an yngwie malmsteen signature clip on guitar tuner, lol.)

jjj, is there anyone in your opinion doing really interesting stuff with guitars just now? from my ignorant perspective it seems that the most interesting are still just different varieties of revivalism, e.g. eastwood.

Merdeyeux, Friday, 24 January 2014 03:07 (ten years ago) link

I mean, I would argue that most of the real innovative stuff is in the pedal realm these days, but at the risk of sounding like a broken record, Reverend is really where it's at when it comes to real deal new electric design.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 24 January 2014 03:42 (ten years ago) link

That said, even the tried and true peeps are pushing the envelope a bit (eastwood warren Ellis tenor electric, g&l fallout being 2 of my faves of the last year or two). The trick is that wrt guitars, sometimes tradition kind of works - one of the reasons I like reverend is that they def come from trad models (sgs, firebirds, jazzmasters, teles, danelectros, 335s mainly) but there's a really interesting blending plus modding that they do that really does something different. Having one person design every guitar you make will have that effect though.

In case I haven't pimped them enough.

So this is awesome, and I already have a dealer inquiry in the pipeline:

Also this, which I have already ordered:

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 24 January 2014 05:15 (ten years ago) link

yeah the Reverend guitars seem quite cool. I'm not really sure what I'm envisioning when I think of what would be a seriously radical guitar design, and whatever it is I'm sure there's very little market for it. At least until that jerk from Muse gets his custom guitar line with built in Kaoss Pads.

Merdeyeux, Friday, 24 January 2014 07:20 (ten years ago) link

Manson Guitars make those.

My kidney is already out, frozen, and ready to sell for this.

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 27 January 2014 23:40 (ten years ago) link

catalinbread new pedals are the Topanga Tank Reverb and the Karma Suture which is a tweaked Harmonic Percolator (!!!!!), Han-Taun Klon Clone from idiotbox if he ever gets around to making it, no word from skreddy yet, but he just releases stuff whenever he wants honestly, some new stuff from big joe that i havent tracked down yet etc etc etc

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Monday, 27 January 2014 23:52 (ten years ago) link

yeah ET, i am pretty curious about the walrus descent but unfortunately the only demo i have heard as of yet is just fucking terrible. im sure i will order a few though

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Monday, 27 January 2014 23:53 (ten years ago) link

Aw man... I'm still going to wait for the inevitable YouTube "Big Sky vs. Descent" shootout from all the wealthy ambient/loop/drone folks out there.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 28 January 2014 02:14 (ten years ago) link

speaking of the big sky i'm way less in love with it than i expected to be

tbf the cheapest cable they show might be worth the money, but that $7000 gold cable? no way

And when you f--- up, you go backwards (snoball), Tuesday, 28 January 2014 16:50 (ten years ago) link

The difference between a $5 cable and a $50 cable is clear to most people -- move on from there, and you are in silly town.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Monday, 14 July 2014 16:55 (nine years ago) link

hey john (or anyone else)--whats good with very small amps these days?

i miss playing electric and got major pangs tonite cracking open the case of my strat....i would say i'm fairly picky and am most likely looking for a tube amp that's apartment-friendly, but i also have not shopped for gear in 6 years or so and am open to the thoughts of anyone who's more up on things.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 July 2014 01:37 (nine years ago) link

Stuff I dig that isn't super $$$:

Ibanez TSA series
Marshall Class 5 (only the UK built head/cab, avoid the Vietnam built combo and head/cab)

Stuff I dig that is kinda $$$:

Verellen Spaldo

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 22 July 2014 04:14 (nine years ago) link

one month passes...

Also intrigued by the Cusack Goblin - it's a dead on legal (as in bought the rights from) Reverend clone, but made in the USA and by all accounts is super awesome. Kinda $$$ for a 5 watt, but hey I might know a guy who might be buying in on the line very soon because he has no impulse control, so maybe he could hook you up. Wink wink.
