You know, it's been a while since we had full on random naked obvious spam from someone to start a thread so I salute you. Also, fuck off.

Andrew JD, Thursday, 27 March 2014 15:17 (ten years ago) link

I'm inclined to just leave this here and let Whiney and Deej have free rein over it.

Indeed.

i listened to a little of this. honestly the production is better than I would expect from spam but there's basically nothing going on lyrically/flow-wise

Neanderthal, Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:17 (ten years ago) link

I could say lots of mean shit about this, but instead I offer some advice: you are wasting your time spamming the board. Even if the product was "ready," which it isn't, this would be a bad and possibly even counter-productive way to push it.

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:25 (ten years ago) link

i've been professionally reviewed and the amount of positivity i have on my soundcloud speaks for itself. i'm sorry you don't like the aesthetic i'm going for.

guys a hand numbered PDF!

coops, right now I'm going through a hype-rap phase. I really jam out to Juicy J, Waka, 2 Chainz, FUTURE, Gucci Mane and several others who mainly only have singles (Rocko, Young Thug). The rappers that really inspired me prior to this phase were Andre 3000 and Big Boi's work on Aquemini, Quasimoto's shroom-rap inspired "Come On Feet", Eminem's passion and transparency in his first two albums, The Streets' "everything goes"-approach to production, Kanye West's "Late Registration" and Lil B's "6 Kiss" + "Angel's Exodus". There's plenty-more.

just FYI quasimoto is the rap alias of Madlib, who produced the seminal "Madvillainy" with MF DOOM. Madlib has also influenced J Dilla, and vice versa, and J Dilla has had a monumental impact on rap music in general, even outside of rap.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madlib

"The album was conceived and recorded by Madlib during a week long psilocybin mushroom binge."

there's basically nothing going on lyrically/flow-wise

you must have missed the part where a text message momentarily distracts him from his solipsistic stream-of-consciousness flow

Many American citizens are literally paralyzed by (bernard snowy), Thursday, 27 March 2014 23:17 (ten years ago) link

not really. someone should have just told him that he's not allowed to start threads to promote his own work and then a mod could have locked the thread and that would be it.

très hip (Treeship), Thursday, 27 March 2014 23:20 (ten years ago) link

We could move it to the I Make Music sub-board. Kid might get more helpful critiques from that group.

yeah that seems like a good idea

très hip (Treeship), Thursday, 27 March 2014 23:31 (ten years ago) link

Doing it. Thread will take a few minutes to move to the new location.

how's life, Thursday, 27 March 2014 23:36 (ten years ago) link

hah it's okay, i'm a big boy, i can handle internet hostility. i'm aware i was spamming. i understand that negativity comes with that territory. honestly didn't expect to get any replies at all, so when i got 40 i was pretty impressed, let alone some positive responses.

i'm already working on my next album. this music was coming from a very specific perspective and it's not meant for someone who's just feeling cynical and clicking through real casually. and i'm aware people will do that and i'm 100% a-okay with that. honestly laughed at most of the responses, especially the muppet one.

thanks to those who were willing to take a chance on this and anyone in the future who wants to take a chance on it. you won't be disappointed. unless you are, in which case, there's plenty of more conventional rap that you can entertain yourself with :)

I was convinced this was an ilx regular who had stumbled across a random soundcloud, registered a sock in the name of its creator and was trolling us, but having read a bit more of the profile I'm starting to think this is the real Andrew JD :(

again, it's fine, lol
most of the negative comments in this thread came from the same people. the people who liked my tunes told me so on soundcloud

Neanderthal, Saturday, 29 March 2014 15:57 (ten years ago) link

RapReviews.com.

Andrew JD, Saturday, 29 March 2014 16:02 (ten years ago) link

We've reached the point where compact discs are now what vinyl records became 20 years ago - COLLECTIBLE.

ok lol

Neanderthal, Saturday, 29 March 2014 16:06 (ten years ago) link

At this point, you don't think CDs are a novelty?

Andrew JD, Saturday, 29 March 2014 16:13 (ten years ago) link

being that I'm looking at a stack of them sitting on my bed that I've bought in merely the last week, no, I don't.

yes, sales are significantly down ffs and we will eventually get to the state where this is true but reviewer majorly jumping the gun.

ffs there's a Black Sabbath CD reissue that's barebones coming out in two weeks that metalheads are already clamoring over...and it's not even NEW, it's a RE-RELEASE of a previous out-of-print reissue.

Neanderthal, Saturday, 29 March 2014 16:16 (ten years ago) link

Well, CDs are definitely STILL ALIVE, yes, but I think for many internet audionerds CDs are just what you rip the digital music from. Most 'normal' people seem to be cool with Spotify / Pandora / Streaming services and the Vinyl culture only continues to grow. Kanye West's "Yeezus" -- the album artwork was said to be "I want you all to look at this one last time, because this is the last time you'll be seeing this [a CD] for a very long time."

Obviously they still exist and people still buy them, but I think things are pretty up-in-the-air right now. The main advantage CDs will always have is the quality of the digital music within, and the ability to perfectly rip the music from said CDs. So I think they will always be around in some form, but more and more musicians are posting their music digitally, first, and then the CD seems to be of secondary concern.

Andrew JD, Saturday, 29 March 2014 16:52 (ten years ago) link

*of secondary concern, released later in the week/month, after the digital release.

Andrew JD, Saturday, 29 March 2014 16:54 (ten years ago) link

Yes but cds are no way a 'novelty' at this point like vinyl was after cds came out.

Headed there, yea...but not even close to 'novelty' yet
