Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Granted, a lot of it is cheezy, but there's a couple of moments I really like. The opening credits sequence, with the pixels leading up to the blinking computerized pumpkin, is wonderfully cold and steely. The hero, a physician who always has a drink in hand and is ready to have sex at a moments notice, is er....a different touch. The villain is terrific ("Do I need a reason?"). And the scene where we get a glimpse of what happens when the Kupfer kid puts on the pumpkin mask...pof, gotta hate when that happens.

So, what do you think about the one and only Michael Myers aberration of the series?

That's more like it.

I hate hate hate hate hate hate the ending so so so so so much (both the uninspired final battle and the final nightmare-isn't-over shocker). But yeah, it has some good elements in the original stages. and the battle with the evil robot woman is kinda nice and absurd.

I definitely don't like it less than the original, but I hate the original.

Oh yeah. I saw this last night. Enjoyed it quite a bit though I agree with Miccio's revulsion of the ending.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
It makes zero sense that she'd be a robot the entire time while helping the hero kill other robots. It's also a bit too much for the Halloween masks, in addition to frying kids faces, too release an army of reptiles as well.
I liked the skull crushing robots and the creepy cheeriness of the Silver Shamrock ads.
I don't hate the first Halloween, not by a long shot, but Season of the Witch is easily the best sequel in the series.

The bugs coming out of the masks is genuinely one the creepiest things I've ever watched.

PressAnarchyToContinue (Ste), Friday, 17 March 2017 11:31 (seven years ago) link

Original screenplay written by Nigel Kneale (he took his name off it when Carpenter and others tinkered with the script), which I think accounts for the Hammer horror vibe of this one.

It was only when I listened to Kim Newman's commentary track for this that I realised that the trio of masks on the TV advert within the film represent the 'Halloween 3'.

(is what we called the antagonist on first viewing and it's stuck ever since.)

(I love this ludicrous movie, btw.)

Has the original Kneale screenplay ever leaked out? I'd love to read it.

This one is my most played of the Halloween OSTs.

On that Region 2 Newman/Jones commentary track I mentioned, Stephen Jones says he's read the original Kneale screenplay, so it obviously still exists.

This Halloween movie is the best of the Halloween movies. By like a lot.

(Maybe that belongs in the controversial opinions thread. Except for the part where it's a fact.)

I love that this movie is now a cult classic. So nasty! So sleazy! Such fun.
