Ganja and Hess

I've never posted a question to I love Film before, but this movie I rented last night has prompted me to.
Ganja and Hess (1973) tells the story of Dr Hess, a modern Black man who is an Anthropologist and a Geologist (or something), a Christian, a ladies man, and a Vampire. Crazy art film, not blacksploitation (but there is a hint of that) but not at all for fans of mainstream horror. There were moments that I thought I'd just turn it off (it has some bad acting, muffled sound, and some pretty terrible dialogue in places) but then something would happen that'd take me by surprise and demand attention.
It stars Duane Jones, who also starred in Night of the Living Dead. He is pretty great in it. This movie fucked me up. I need to watch it again.

Spike didn't show.

Deeply, deeply strange, from Gunn's "cut"/"cunt" monologue on.

^^ thanks for that article. 'Stop' sounds incredible (and I still have to see 'The Landlord')

kind of excited for Spike's remake, but mainly just because the original film is so utterly incredible. the trailer makes it look like a lot of the original's scenes are getting carried over, including the church scenes.

I wish there was a movie soundtrack for the original with Sam Waymon's music. Nina Simone's brother! that last theme, I'm probably going to have end up dubbing off the DVD.

looks nice

starring Mabel King, aka Roj & Dee Dee's mom from What's Happening, as the Queen of Myrria (that might not mean as much for UK audiences but when she made her first appearance, my childhood was instantly rewritten)
