tomorrow we can discuss how the hell our picks will still have jobs in 2 months

presenting THE WILLS TO WIN! I was really torn about picking Arencibia, but decided not to, bcz surely Texas will not be stupid enough to give him 250+ PA even with the Soto injury, right? Yeah, no idea why I didn't remember it's Texas. Lost several points last night due to Popeye Uggla's 2 HR, which can't happen every night.
Also tempted to take 2 Twins pitchers, but I hadda get a Rockie in there.
Catcher Dioner Navarro TOR First Base Yonder Alonso SD Second Base Dan Uggla ATL Third Base Mike Moustakas KC Shortstop Alcides Escobar KC
Left Field Robbie Grossman HOU Center Field B.J. Upton ATL Right Field Josh Reddick OAK

my team: The Whostown Lastros

I have zoomed into the top 10 thanks to Star of the Day Mike Pelfrey, but he needs to have a couple mediocre outings or even the Twins will release him by Fathers Day.
Arencibia is at an .071 BA and plunging, but he drove in two runs with ground balls yesterday, so yeah, Texas will probably platoon him all fucking year.
― images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Friday, 18 April 2014 14:14 (ten years ago) link
Texas signed him despite his historically bad OBP, so I figured it's unlikely that they'll have that "AHA Arencibia sucks!" moment anytime soon.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Friday, 18 April 2014 20:43 (ten years ago) link
But they didn't expect to be missing G Soto for 3 months....
― images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Friday, 18 April 2014 20:47 (ten years ago) link
Alcides Escobar has hit .395/.413/.674 in his last 46 plate appearances.... regression anticipation
― images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Monday, 21 April 2014 13:19 (ten years ago) link
My team is in free fall, not sure what I can do other than wait for Moutsakas and Escobar to stop hitting.
― images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 14:00 (ten years ago) link
ungood free fall or reverse bad free fall?
― Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 19:36 (ten years ago) link
what do you think?
9-point gain last night! a record for me and I have Pelfrey going today.

up another 13 today (10 of em from Pelfrey), tied for 41st.

hey, not bad. i've dropped almost 100 points since they sent Goins down!

he was a p popular CF pick, after BJ I think
― images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 21:34 (ten years ago) link
It's funny to see most of the teams near the top losing points yesterday, since Alcides Escobar and Yonder Alonso had 4 hits and a homer between them.
really kicking myself for not picking Nate Schierholtz
― images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Monday, 12 May 2014 14:26 (ten years ago) link
Robbie Grossman is back up! Getting hits so far, alas.
Why the fuck did I pick De La Rosa? Did I think he'd be bad or something? He needs to pitch only at Coors.
― images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 29 May 2014 00:00 (ten years ago) link
At last, De La Rosa got knocked around and my hitters sucked! Up 12 points in a day. (just discovered Reddick was DL'd tho)

no, Alcides Escobar.

collected 24 pts on Wednesday (17 from De La Rosa), a personal record. Now tied for 13th; I'd be sitting pretty if I'd only taken Zack Cozart and Jose Molina.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Friday, 20 June 2014 13:44 (nine years ago) link
I'm up to 84th after picking up 102 points in the past month. Morbs' team still looks solid at #29.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 15:50 (nine years ago) link
yeah, but I'm likely getting absolutely nothing in the second half from Pelfrey, Uggla, Alonso.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 15:54 (nine years ago) link
i've dropped all the way into the 600's :(
― Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 19:10 (nine years ago) link
Brutal night, lost 16 points and dropped about 40 places. That's what happens when Navarro and Moustakas both have great nights.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 14:55 (nine years ago) link
I picked up another 18 points and moved up to #38. There's still room for improvement -- James Loney is still in negative points!
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 23 July 2014 21:14 (nine years ago) link
I find that the two pitchers' performance is really key. and of course De La Rosa is doing well again today....
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 21:19 (nine years ago) link
my spiral into oblivion continues as Reddick and Navarro keep hitting.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 27 July 2014 16:49 (nine years ago) link
I think I'm done -- my team picked up minus 30 points last week, I'm down to 105th place after peaking at around 38th place a couple of weeks ago.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Friday, 8 August 2014 14:46 (nine years ago) link
yeah, you were tied with me a couple days ago, that's a bad sign.
really kicking myself for thinking Jose Molina and Nate Schierholtz wouldn't play enough. And now Yonder Alonso is hitting.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Friday, 8 August 2014 17:11 (nine years ago) link
My team "rebounded" with 32 points over the past seven days. I'm up to 55th place. Nobody on my team really stood out this week, it was general suckage all around, a true team effort.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 13 August 2014 17:07 (nine years ago) link
It's kind of amazing you have six players with 18 pts or less, and are that high. Carried by Edwin Jackson!
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 13 August 2014 19:05 (nine years ago) link
Wow, Edwin Jackson is really dominating Hacking Mass so far. He has 103 points, with Buccholz twenty points behind.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 26 August 2014 19:19 (nine years ago) link
And I think the Cubs have just pulled Jackson from the rotation! When his ERA was about to hit the Number of the Beast.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 26 August 2014 20:24 (nine years ago) link
Oh no, he's my star player!

nice!
― Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 15:57 (nine years ago) link
goddamn your Edwin Jackson, not being put on the DL til late August :)
BJ Upton homered and drew 2 walks last night, and nearly all the leaders in HM lost points.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 4 September 2014 17:38 (nine years ago) link
(plus with Dioner Navarro homering, I have dropped to a new low)
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 4 September 2014 17:39 (nine years ago) link
Minus-16 points over the past week. I've dropped to 81st. Oh well, it was a decent run.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 14 September 2014 20:52 (nine years ago) link
There's only one Edwin Jackson!
Jeter would've been a golden pick after all... Closing in on Zack Cozart for "leading" shortstop.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 15 September 2014 15:33 (nine years ago) link
Kudos to whoever had Chris Johnson in this league.
― Malibu Stasi (WilliamC), Friday, 19 September 2014 19:05 (nine years ago) link
He's only 72nd overall and fourth among third basemen. Andrelton Simmons is 27th (remember, it's essentially OPS factored by plate appearances, for non-pitchers).
