Adam Rubin:
Catcher Travis d'Arnaud departed Monday's game with shoulder soreness, and the Mets already are making contingency plans for a potential disabled list stint.
Major league veteran Rene Rivera was pulled after one at-bat from Triple-A Las Vegas' game against Albuquerque on Monday night, signaling he is in line to be flown to New York.

The Mets are calling Travis d'Arnaud's injury a right rotator cuff strain. He has been placed on the disabled list. Rene Rivera has been promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Keith Hernandez was peeved last year about the Mets' "pitch-taking approach" last year, I haven't heard him enough this season to know if he's still on it.
(The) Mets lead the league in fewest swings at the first pitch during at-bats in all of baseball, at 22.1 percent, and see the fourth-most pitches per plate appearance (3.98) in the National League.
As evidenced by the big run-scoring, their patience appears to be paying off.
"Obviously, if you were seeing two pitches per at-bat and hitting every other one of them over the fence, I'll take it, but that's not reality," Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday. "Reality is: you have to make the pitcher work to where he's gotta come to you."

Jaffe on the Cult of Bartolo:
Colon's pitches are sometimes described as "bowling balls" for the way that they sink and the difficulty that batters have elevating them, though to be fair, his groundball and home run rates are nothing special (40.7% and 1.0 per nine since joining the Mets before the 2014 season). What is special is his walk rate; he led the NL last year with just 1.1 passes per nine and has been below 1.5 per nine in each of the last four seasons. His 1.27 per nine since the start of 2012 is 0.01 behind Cliff Lee for the lead among all pitchers with at least 300 innings, while his 4.8 strikeout-to-walk ratio in that span is seventh.

That clip cuts off with commentary saying "this is one of the great moments in the history ..." -- it's fitting to end the clip at that moment, because you can complete the sentence any way you want and it would be correct.

Never heard the 1970s version. You might be able to sneak the instrumental version onto one of those library music compilations.
I like the '80s version, but I am more familiar with the version that has this rising synthesizer line in the background that really made the song for me.
