Literally, Pedro is visited by an alien between his tenure in Boston and Mets. The alien clones Pedro and the clone pitcher goes 8-2 with a 2.72 ERA.

The strip is a commentary on Pedro's 2005 performance which is something that Francona/Epstein/Henry/Ruth'sCurseSteakHouse on up would have never predicted, thus worthy of filing under: conspiracy theory/alternate history silliness.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 16 September 2005 05:14 (eighteen years ago) link

God, I'm dense.

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 16 September 2005 05:35 (eighteen years ago) link

It's also paying homage to a Calvin & Hobbes strip, wherein an alien visits Cavlin, assumes his ID, and goes to school as him.

(it's not as funny as the dugout. also it appears to be part of one of those livejournal 'play celebrities' games.)

maura (maura), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:42 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't disagree (G3r4rd thought The Frogs were funny, after all).

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 1 December 2005 20:34 (eighteen years ago) link

(hahaa, oh man)

those livejournal play-acting games kinda freak me out because of the d & d element.

i will never look at jim thome the same way again

The other night on Baseball Tonight they interviewed Jim Thome over the phone, so they put up a still image of his smiling maw and I could not stop laughing.
