2015 AL Cy Young

Kevin's closing date for the NL poll is three days too early (although if everyone's clinched, probably no one starts the final weekend)...Also a three-person race in the AL, more realistically two. Price didn't pitch well today, did pick up the win. (Chris Archer was even worse--if he'd been great, I'd probably list him too.) Close to even before today, but Keuchel again has the edge.

Poll Results

OptionVotes
Dallas Keuchel 3
David Price 3
Sonny Gray 0

gray's been terrible lately, he's been out of the running for several weeks now imo. comes down to the final starts again.

worried that the astros' struggles prevent them from lining keuchel up for the yankees

(xpost) Yeah, his monthly breakdown is great until Sept./Oct., which is brutal. Didn't realize that. Sale, too. I guess it is down to two.

what a shit year for the AL

Gray had no Cy Young momentum even before his last 2-3 bad starts (and now the A's will probably shut him down). Price and Keuchel are a coin flip, but if Houston makes the playoffs then I expect Keuchel to win.

Those three guys were pretty close going into September; I'd be inclined to put Gray ahead of Price at that point.

Keuchel - 16-6, 2.24, 173 K/42 BB, .213/.257/.294 slash line
Price - 13-5, 2.47, 188/37, .234/.273/.361
Gray - 12-6, 2.13, 150/46, .201/.254/.289

Keuchel goes today, plus once more; Price only gets one more start. Keuchel's to lose.

gray might have some dark horse potential and is my personal favorite out of the three top AL pitchers, but I'd be pretty fuckin surprised if keuchel didn't get it. his dominance is so closely tied to his team's, unlike gray and more so than price by a meaningful (if not colossal) amount

what are those numbers?

Those were their numbers at the end of August; I was trying to counter NoTime's point that Gray hasn't been in the running for a while. It's a moot point.

(xpost) I think you're probably right that Price's split-season will hurt him, even though he's viewed as something of a savior here.

has anyone won a cy young in a season where they've been traded?! a quick wiki scan says no, but not sure if they'd bother to mention if a guy was on two different teams or not.

Sutcliffe won when he went 16-1 with the cubs in 1984 (20-6 total iirc, started the season with cleveland.)

Keuchel deserves it by DRA and other metrics

Keuchel put it away today.

Price still leads in fWAR, whose leaderboards often just don't look right to me

5th in bWAR and 6th in fWAR among AL pitchers: the under-the-radar Carlos Carrasco
