Oh man, this is going to be a rough year. But let's do this. Post all your Uecker quotes, Orlando Arcia minor league updates, mascot conspiracy theories and Jonathan Lucroy trade rumors here.

Oh yeah, and now that Joe Block is gone the team needs a #3 broadcast booth guy. Hope they find somebody good b/c I'm listening to Steve Woodard now and he is horrible

Evan R, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 21:21 (eight years ago) link

They won five in a row in spring training. I wonder if that's going to be our only five game streak all year.

frogbs, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 21:22 (eight years ago) link

I mean Matt Garza is still on the team and I presume going to be eating a lot of innings so

frogbs, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 21:23 (eight years ago) link

Given that Garza has a vesting option for a fifth year (!) in 2018 if he hits a certain number of starts, I hope we don't play him too much.

So 3-3 isn't so bad. I guess that's the nice thing about low expectations; they are easy to exceed. And the team has been more fun to watch than I feared.

Evan R, Monday, 11 April 2016 19:48 (eight years ago) link

watching Scooter go yard three times has been something

frogbs, Monday, 11 April 2016 19:58 (eight years ago) link

Yeah! He looks so good this year. Not a big fan of that dude at all, and this obviously isn't sustainable, but it does feel like he's turned a corner after last year

Evan R, Monday, 11 April 2016 20:15 (eight years ago) link

Scooter is still at it! Looks like he's a possible trade chip.

And I'm guessing we're gonna flip Carter, too, if he keeps playing like this.

Evan R, Monday, 25 April 2016 16:56 (seven years ago) link

their run differential is 2nd worst in baseball (Reds just took that crown) but yeah they've been uh...better than expected? I mean their pitching staff is bad but I don't think they continue to give up 6 runs a game.

Carter has been a bit of a revelation but I doubt he'll be worth a lot - his defense is bad, he plays 1st, he's turning 30 and hasn't had a 2 WAR season yet

Chase Anderson no hitting the Cubbies through 7...what the hell?!?!?

Zach Davies, too

Wily Peralta was optioned to Colorado Springs on Sunday; more Hacking Mass attrition for me

we can be heroes just for about 3.6 seconds (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 16 June 2016 16:58 (seven years ago) link

sucks, he was definitely a big part of future plans but when he's bad he's really, really bad

still wondering where the Braun trade is. kinda feeling it's not gonna happen but it's fun to talk about.

30-36 ain't bad - figured them to be a 65-win team looking at that roster early on.

I can't get over Lucroy vetoing the Indians trade. Seemed like such a ridiculous haul vs. two prospects (none named Gallo) for both Lucory and Jeffress :(

Evan R, Monday, 1 August 2016 20:34 (seven years ago) link

nah, they've done very well. they've both had tough years, but brinson has fucking ~tools~ -- he's ranked #16 in the minors by baseball america, and ortiz is top-100. and they're both very young for their level

plus they got the giants' top prospect for a reliever! imo only the yankees did better this week

mookieproof, Tuesday, 2 August 2016 00:23 (seven years ago) link

currently pitching for the brewers: damien magnifico

sadly he's not very good, and yet he's destined for greatness

This team is fun! I hope Broxton can sustain this because he's my new favorite. And Villar. And Arcia and Davies. And Braun still. This is going to be a fun team in 2017.

Evan R, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 16:54 (seven years ago) link

Brewers infield defense was pretty shaky tonight. Yikes.

New 1B guy: Eric Thames. "Outside the box" etc. Could be fun but I'm gonna miss cHRis caHRteHR

This kinda puts the Korea numbers in perspective

@CJNitkowski 15m15 minutes ago

KBO's Eric Thames to MIL on 3 year deal.

HRs last season in KBO - 1st season in MLB:
Kang 40-15
Park 53-12
Kim 28-6
Lee 27-14
Thames 40-??

Evan R, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 15:23 (seven years ago) link

yeah I'll miss Carter too but he's not very good. I'm not subscribed to BB-Ref but a cursory search seems to reveal that he had one of the worst 40+ HR seasons of all time, on par with 08 Adam Dunn, apparently worse than 98 Canseco. oh well.

frogbs, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 15:33 (seven years ago) link

Yeah but during a rebuild it's just fun to watch homers

Evan R, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 15:48 (seven years ago) link

Damn, we got a HAUL for Thornburg. I love Stearns' strategy of flipping relievers while they're hot.

Evan R, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:11 (seven years ago) link

yeah I'm impressed. Shaw doesn't seem like much but it's nice to get another lefty on the squad.

frogbs, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 19:18 (seven years ago) link

idk if he has the stuff to make it, but mauricio dubon is a tremendous kid. he's from honduras, and when a christian group visited his town he went back to sacramento with them to work on his baseball. 26th-round pick, hit .339/.371/.538 as a 21yo in double-a this year while playing shortstop

also he supposedly gives the brewers 20 prospects with at least a 50 overall grade from scouts, which leads everyone, even before trading braun

mookieproof, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 20:50 (seven years ago) link

pretty cool considering they had the worst farm system in the league from like 2010-2013 (give or take)

frogbs, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 21:01 (seven years ago) link

damn

steamer projection for eric thames: .272/.350/.515, 29 HR, 78 RBI, 124 WRC+

that'll work

mookieproof, Thursday, 5 January 2017 17:19 (seven years ago) link

seems like they're projecting pretty hard from his (admittedly impressive) Korean league stats...not sure at all how that's gonna translate

frogbs, Thursday, 5 January 2017 17:26 (seven years ago) link

yeah, idk how they get to that at all. he was pretty good in the minors (five years ago) and i was surprised he didn't work out, but i'm not sure how that + korea = 124 WRC+

really interested to see how he does
