@MarkZuckerman
Dusty took blame for giving wrong sign on botched Murphy/Werth hit-and-run: "I inadvertently touched the wrong part of my body."

murph 4-for-4, now .406/.452/.660

nationals are being really cheap and/or stupid imo. they're likely going to be in a fight with the mets all season to avoid the wild card game, but they continue to run out danny espinosa and his .560 OPS rather than start trea turner's arbitration clock too early

bruce harper is only going to be there so much longer -- this year and two more
scherzer is only going to be good for so much longer, even when he doesn't give up four homers
werth and zimmerman are barely useful now, let alone the next 1 and 3 years of their contracts
your window is now; trying to save a couple million five years from now is idiotic

it's not like trea turner is a superstar, but c'mon. maybe it's just that dusty hates the kids

mookieproof, Friday, 6 May 2016 23:49 (eight years ago) link

Strasburg also FA next winter.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 7 May 2016 00:07 (eight years ago) link

but yeah, if Stanton stayed in Miami, I could see Harper deciding on staying in DC. not saying that's the most likely scenario, but it's a possibility.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 7 May 2016 00:09 (eight years ago) link

harper's next contract is going to unlock the heavens, wherever it is

he seems like a guy who maybe wants to be in ny/la? i dunno, but certainly those are good candidates money-wise

mookieproof, Saturday, 7 May 2016 00:14 (eight years ago) link

agreed on it's now or never for the nats that being said. also phillies poised to become a powerhouse real soon.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 7 May 2016 02:58 (eight years ago) link

through 57 PA, Ben Revere has a .158 obp. Pretty much Dusty's ideal leadoff man. He's FAST.

@Mike_Vorkunov
Dusty Baker is talking about TJ surgery and goes on an aside about Frankenstein. "I was never afraid of him. He was too slow."

Bryce Harper is 0-for-20 against Matt Harvey

Pretty much Dusty's ideal leadoff man. He's FAST.

Yeah he can get from home plate to the dugout in under four seconds

three weeks pass...

@masnKolko
In 15% of Max Scherzer's starts as a National, he's taken a no-hitter into the 6th inning. In 11%, he's taken a perfect game into the 6th

mookieproof, Tuesday, 14 June 2016 14:59 (seven years ago) link

watched a couple innings last night and i'm not sure how anybody hits him.

Seeing the Nats vs the Phillies on September 10th, with the possibility of getting a Nats beer stein (and seeing Scherzer).

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 3 August 2016 01:17 (seven years ago) link

really, how could i have doubted that at this point Dusty would have given Ben Revere 289 PA with a .213/.260/.291 slashline

What a wasted trip to Nats Park this morning... and in this heat, too. I go to help Pap clean out his locker and there's a line of 156 others waiting to do the same thing.

@washingnats
I thought Ken Griffey Sr. [before the knee injuries] and Mickey Rivers were the fastest runners I ever saw. But Turner is tops on my list.

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andy K, Sunday, 14 August 2016 00:53 (seven years ago) link

"'For me I'm getting up there on the all-time closing list and that's important to me. When Theo (Epstein) had me as a young kid in Boston and he wanted to start to me and I said, 'No, I'm a closer, that's what I want to be, and that's who I am.' This is what I envisioned. I envisioned chasing Mariano and I've told Mariano that at many All-Star games, 'I'm coming after you.'" - Jonathan Papelbon, last July

Only 284 to go.

Only time I ever covered Papelbon, he walked into the clubhouse, turned off The Doors & put on a song called "Vote For Trump" at max volume

Saw the Saturday game vs the Phillies, Nats Park is very pleasant. Really happy to see the Walter Johnson and Josh Gibson statues. Would have liked a little more Expos memorabilia around, but all is forgiven on a Harper home run.
