May have discovered the walk--eight in his last 11 games. If he were to play every game the rest of the way, and continued getting up to bat at the same rate (3.87 AB per game), he'd have to hit .119 (24/201) to fall below .250. He'd stay above .300 hitting .224 (45/201), and he'd need to hit .274 (55/201) to finish up at .325. Unlikely he'll play every game, though, making all of those slightly easier.
He still hasn't had more than a mini-slump; .300-.324 looks pretty good.
― clemenza, Monday, 5 August 2013 12:27 (ten years ago) link
yeah the mini-slump seems to be over, .390/.490/.707 over his last 11 games. his power has been way down since that first month, although there really wasn't any other direction for it to go

― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2013 16:21 (ten years ago) link
they've both been key to the turnaround, sure, but let's not flirt with Shannon Stewart Syndrome.
Puig and Ramirez are exceeded in WAR by Kershaw and Ryu. Or Kershaw and Paco Rodriguez.
― Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 22 August 2013 16:28 (ten years ago) link
Agree with that. Puig's arrival (June 3) and Ramirez's return (June 4) were almost simultaneous. The Dodgers have been 50-20 starting on June 4. (If you wanted a counter-argument, they didn't start winning immediately: from June 4 to June 21, they were 6-10. That's when they took off.)
But I do believe that the arrival of certain players can spark a team in ways that can't be measured, sure, though not in the way Morbius dismisses the idea.
― clemenza, Thursday, 22 August 2013 16:30 (ten years ago) link
Dodgers big turnaround was stabilizing their rotation with Kershaw-Greinke-Ryu-Nolasco-Capuano. They had 8 starters going into the season and were on their 9th in about 2 weeks. The bullpen turnaround with the intro of Withrow and promotion of Paco and Jansen to higher leverage situations staunched the bleeding there. Hanley replaced mendoza line production from SS. Puig made up for the complete absence of Kemp, and Either started hitting higher than .220.

Interesting "Hey Bill":
Who would you rather have, Puig or Bryce Harper?Asked by: Steve9753
Answered: 9/11/2013Not sure. To me, Puig is in a line marked by Vladimir Guerrero on the one end and Jeff Francoeur on the other. He's certainly out-played Harper this year.
Puig's been great, but long-term, I sure would feel a lot safer with Harper.
