seeing the first few albums from 2015 available to download reminded me of the first time i saw a scene release from a year that had yet to exist available to download via ftp

the album was by the band 'asian dub foundation' and the year was 2003

one month passes...

Cinnamomum Parthenoxylon and Leucadendron Argenteum are highlights for me, though the album in its entirety is sumptuously blissed-out sonic foliage for the spirit.

Hearing the backstory vastly improves this for me. Nothing like a bit of nebulous memento mori to make an album sparkle.

sure this isn't r1o natsume significantly upping his game after the missingno episode?

fuck your vinyl rip!

i very much enjoyed the "Mixtapes" by the band Horse Lords, which I downloaded from their Bandcamp page.

brain floss mix (sleeve), Thursday, 29 January 2015 22:35 (nine years ago) link

noise reduction is ok in moderation, but jfc these are some of the most lifeless, overprocessed 192kbps mp3s I've ever heard (and I know it's a vinyl rip because this album has never been issued on CD). people seem to think it's necessary to get rid of every single vinyl pop and krak, even when it comes at the expense of the overall sound quality.

(I'm just mad because it seems like everyone on slsk is sharing the same crappy vinyl rip of this album @ various bitrates)

No-Neck Blue's Banned - Craig Bellamy (nakhchivan), Sunday, 1 February 2015 03:34 (nine years ago) link

U.R. has it for me, more diverse, their influence reaches further. The debt IDM labels and microgenres owe U.R. isn't recognised, their inspiration attributed to acid house instead (eg Warp Classics Compilation.)

Try 'soulseek' for downloading these tracks, a P2P network that specializes in Electronic music.

haha that's a terrible lyric. i actually love MCPB tho. the price paul produced 'it's very stimulating' ep is all-time for me. if you can get over the immaturity of the lyrical themes (i'm immature so it's not an issue for me) his rhymes are pretty insane

I don't walk, I get carried
By a motorcade of voter-age women on rollerblades
In cute sleeveless shirts exposing their shoulder blades

or

My iconoclastic rap schtick, gets my jimmy waxed like Chapstick
I think LL Cool J and Canibus are BOTH fantastic
So-called experts can't see how the text works
So they comb through the textures of italicized excerpts

Last time I saw them play it, they didn't play any kind of extended ending or anything like that. It felt a bit weird!

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Monday, 11 May 2015 20:27 (eight years ago) link

some albums switch gears at the beginning of the 2nd side in an interesting way, "On Some Faraway Beach" on Warm Jets for example

nakhchivan, Friday, 15 May 2015 23:39 (eight years ago) link

CDs don't have that required change dynamic and maybe they get frontloaded more than LP based collections did

the covers of the last lot of albums i have downloaded are quite coincidentally entirely monochrome (gabor lazar & mark fell, byetone, sd laika, alva noto, voigt) although perhaps not so surprising giving the regnant aesthetics of that sort of music

opa panzram style (nakhchivan), Sunday, 24 May 2015 15:28 (eight years ago) link

I downloaded all three of those Xerrox albums last week. I'm mildly impressed that he planned out the artwork for his 5-album series more than a decade before the final volume is likely to come out (although it's still possible that he'll throw us a curveball and spell out XERRISCAPE or someshit)

I also downloaded a bunch of messy Scandinavian psych/electronic/freefolk albums (Tomutonttu, Kemialliset Ystävät, Tsembla) with appropriately garish tie-dyed color schemes. salvia is the most embarrassing muse.
