I feel like I see comparisons to disco invoked as a term of derision for these costumes sometimes, but disco seems like a better match for superhero comics than any other pop music phenomenon.

I was trying to think if there were any characters who had costumes in this style who were still wearing them after 1989 or so, the best I could come up with was Nova, who I think kind of fits here?

this isn't superhero related, but it came up in the GIS for 'Nova 70s' and it's fantastic

Feel like there should be a companion thread for outfits from the covers of disco records from the 70s and 80s that wouldn't look out of place as superhero costumes.

The Dazzler and Hypno Hustler pics are kinda cheating, since those characters were actual disco musicians when they were introduced...

Is this pic for real? Because if it is, that's gotta be the most unintentionally(?) gay superhero costume of all time.

Nightcrawler still wore those disco shoulder pads and V-cut in the 00s, though I guess with him they were kinda justified by his "swashbuckler" persona.
