A lead pipe always works for my problems.

Have you tryed a lead pipe?

Joshua Aldridge, Monday, 17 July 2006 02:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Is that a joke?

Confounded (Confounded), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Is that a real question?

Anyways, I don't think there's any sort of edit function on this message board. You saw what happened to the last forum.

You might want to look into getting some sort of monitor status, but I don't think they have that here.

Joshua Aldridge, Tuesday, 18 July 2006 02:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I think Barb, who administers here, can erase messages. But I'm not sure about any other countermeasures...

Damn. I just don't want our forum to become the post-apocalyptic remnants of civilization again.

skye, Tuesday, 18 July 2006 07:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Damn, how is it that the floodgates just started to open? I wonder what it is that prevented all this from happening before, but is now ineffective... maybe it's just a matter of time.

Hello, I'm one of the site administrators. We've had the exact same problem on most of the ilx sub-boards, and the only thing that's worked so far is to set each board to accept posts from registered users only, 99% of the spam coming from "not logged in". I've locked the board to unregistered posters, obviously barb e can remove this if she wants to. If you can't post as a result of this, please register your username! It doesn't take more than a minute or two.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 21 July 2006 12:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, that seems simple enough! Thanks! I've been posting registered, and I can tell you that it's extremely simple, if you haven't done it yet. The cookie takes care of it all for you.

Matt Rebholz (Matt Rebholz), Saturday, 22 July 2006 03:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Thanks Pashmina. I had no idea login was considered the same as registered.

So I guess I will put up Cafe Irreal again, sorry guys for the loss of the column.

three weeks pass...
Well Skye I did something about the spammer but now the board is inactive. I haven't the foggiest idea why unless everyone is uninspired, but you have to admit, we were headed for nothing but abuse from the spammer and so I don't see any other answer, unless someone out there can come up with better.

This board has been on its way out for a long time . . . even when I first started hanging out on the old Lusenet board it seemed like everyone had run out of interesting things to say about the show. It's sad but it always happens eventually, and the forum going "registered members only" seems like the last nail in the coffin, even though most of the recent posts were worthless anyway. However, I've had that thought many times in the past and then the forum revived itself again, so there's still some hope. Which is good because I like hanging out here when there are more people around (not trolls or spammers). I miss Sam and Matt, and Barb, I wish you'd post more too.

your hair is good to eat (your hair is good to eat), Saturday, 12 August 2006 18:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I have to admit I've become more of a spectator. It's due to my schedule of work, which is about 60 hours a week, I'm flat out exhausted.

But I'm not brain dead, I've found the posts interesting. Peter Chung and his reveals of what is going on are great, and I'd never have known of most of the sort of avenues people take here without coming here. I'm more of a book reader, my interests are so completely different from these avenues, and so obsessive in their own right that I find often I have nothing to say in these directions, being so absorbed in my few hours off with other things.

But those directions take me back to the complexity of the characters in Aeon Flux, and the complexities of human nature, society and even what is happening out there politically, in a strange way. I love to read what people so different from myself have to say. I am taken on a different avenue because of it, and am considering those things when I'm away from the board.

I'm very busy too with not much to offer the board at the moment.
With the movie and the DVD collection, there was some renewed activity for a while, which has slowed down since.
I do hope people stay around. I know that a very large number of people visit the forum for information, though they may not post. I've been astonished many times when people I meet happen to know things that could only have been learned from the messages posted there-- including a lot of the journalists who've interviewed me.

I wish I could post material from the projects I'm working on currently. Things are picking up steam at DNA, the Seoul studio where I've done all my production during the last 8 years. We will be making a new Aeon Flux promo film for the planned new animated version later this year.

After considering a CG animated Aeon, it looks like we'll be doing this in hand-drawn 2D with CG environments. Terminator 4 is being delayed, but the animated shorts collection will be going ahead. I'm also developing a project based on a new DC comic series.

Even if things will be quiet here for a while, I hope this board and this community will remain alive. It's such a great resource and meeting place. (Though with all the new stuff I'm doing, I may finally have to start up a site of my own)

Thanks again, Barb.

I don't know if anyone else has had trouble getting to this forum but I haven't been able to reach it for two days.

At any rate, hand drawn animation has always been kind of a preference of mine, it seems more personal. I don't know if that's how the animators feel about it though.

Barb e (Barb e), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm glad that Aeon herself is staying hand-drawn. It will be very intriguing to see a CG Bregna, however. I'm elated. I just wonder if I'll be able to distance myself from thinking of the old (and great) PS1 game FEAR EFFECT while watching it.

I've been moving back home after a year in Japan, and things have been hectic, but I'm lurking again now (and hopefully will be posting more).

As far as running out of steam, I've actually gotten the chance to watch the DVD collection in a lot more detail (only got a quick peek at it when it came out), and I've been enjoying the episodes in a new light. After watching "The Demiurge" now, I feel like I have a new sense of it, but not necessarily because of the changes made to it. Perhaps it's me that's changed, but I feel like I really know what's going on now. Maybe I'll post an analysis later.

Sam Grayson (Sam Grayson), Sunday, 27 August 2006 01:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey Peter! Will we get to see the Aeon Flux Promo film? That'd be cool, when is it going to be ready for viewing, (even if we can't see it). Is it strange doing AF scripts, or concepts or do you have a whole bunch of ideas that never got used?

Another thing I'm wondering is, is the comic Aeon Flux? Will you be doing the art yourself? I've only mentioned a hundered times I loved the Herodotus File.

Barb e (Barb e), Sunday, 27 August 2006 19:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't say anything about the AF film at the moment.

As for the comic, the Dark Horse series which ran 4 issues was intended as a prequel to the movie. No more issues are planned.

Peter Chung (Peter Chung), Monday, 28 August 2006 06:12 (seventeen years ago) link

By the way, just wanted to mention that the old episodes are still being exposed to new minds. Just tonight I introduced them to my roommate and friend, and he really enjoyed them (and on the intended level, too). Now he's looking forward to the new AF as well.

I still havent got the box set yet (gosh!). But I will shortly. I'm going get it played at one of my artschool's film nights. I havent met anyone there so far who's seen AF.

two months pass...
I find it particularly ironic that this request inadvertently made this forum inaccessible to me for months.

skye (skyknyt), Saturday, 18 November 2006 05:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Skye,

Funny you should say that because after you said that it just about rained trolls and then came the great blackout. I thought of your statement again and again and wondered what you thought 'now'. lol.

Barb e (Barb e), Saturday, 18 November 2006 18:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, I'm kind of curious if many other folks found themselves totally unable to register, and had to jump through several hoops before finally figuring out a means to.

I seriously tried to register 20 or 30 times over the following months, all to no avail, until just recently. I guess a new admin took over, and maybe responded to the "Help" emails?

If anyone is still lost in the fog and needs to register, I suggest attempting to submit a "help" ticket. It worked for me! ... eventually.
