DOOD STENCE IT'S BEEN AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE BRO

INTERNET CONNECTION WAS DOWN AT HOME ... ALSO NEW JOB WHERE I CAN'T FUCK AROUND ON THE INTERNET DURING THE DAY. I MEAN, I *COULD* FUCK AROUND -- SITES AIN'T BLOCKED OR ANYTHING -- BUT I DON'T REALLY WANT TO ... YET

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 22 April 2005 00:43 (nineteen years ago) link

but is it a good new job? what is it? isn't having a new job good?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 22 April 2005 00:46 (nineteen years ago) link

oh fuck yes it is! I'm really happy with it, actually. It's this software company that makes and order entry platform that traders use to input and route trades directly into whatever exchange they want. That's really the only thing they make but it's a really cool app, I basically just work in support. It's a cool company though, pretty laid back. They are affiliated with Archipelago -- I work in the same building as arca hq -- so you can imagine the whole place was totally buzzing today...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 22 April 2005 00:55 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah dude congrats! too bad you don't have stock options, bro.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 22 April 2005 00:57 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, no shit! that thing was up like 75% at the high. some of the older dudes taht work at my place have some. oh well, day late and a dollar short.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 22 April 2005 01:02 (nineteen years ago) link

eh, it's only money (at least that's what i keep telling myself).

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 22 April 2005 01:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Stormy, I just re-read a Patti Smith thread and found out we both wrote about Horses for our college entry essay! How could I have forgotten that? Anyway, good for you with the job and all.

My late brother was a big Jorma fan. For some reason this led to the neighborhood jackasses calling me Jorma all the time. I was really pissed, I was very anti-Jorma at the time. Why can't they just call me Sid or Devo like everyone else? I like him fine now.

Moosie Grosvenor (Arthur), Friday, 22 April 2005 02:51 (nineteen years ago) link

aw, thanks Arthur! I like the job so we shall see how things go.. Yeah, I guess I had kinda forgotten about that little tidbit about Patti and "Horses" until you just mentioned it! I do now remember you writing that. Crazy coincidence! It's funny, I love Patti but I don't honestly listen to her so much these days ... but I first heard that album as a senior in high school and I was basically OBSESSED with it..

Jorma is kind of a goofy name ... like when people want to make fun of people who are into the Dead and bands of that ilk, they'll say "dude .. JORMA" in this really affected manner. But it's ok, I can take it. I still love all of that hippie shit.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 22 April 2005 03:20 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, I've outgrown Patti somewhat, too. But I was looking back on those threads after hearing the Morrissey version of "Redondo Beach". It really does heighten the lesbo/Tennessee Williams feel of the original, I like it.

I forgot to mention that all the neighborhood kids would mispronounce it, with a hard J instead of "Yorma."

one of my favorite moments working at a record store was thanks to ht. this guy came in, totally distraught because he had sold his hot tuna "in a can" box set a while back and feared that it was out of print. i managed to track a copy down for him, and he shook my hand and offered to compliment me to the manager.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 22 April 2005 11:15 (nineteen years ago) link

a hot tuna box set?!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:21 (nineteen years ago) link

yes. it came in what was supposed to be a giant tuna can.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:27 (nineteen years ago) link

did it smell like tuna? please tell me it smelled like tuna.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:30 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm sorry. no.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:40 (nineteen years ago) link

"You know what's the best thing to do with your cans of tuna? Open them. And once it's open the best thing to do is mail it to a friend. You don't have to pay postage, you can mail it postage due. Just put the guy's name on it and be sure to use the proper zip code but if you put down your return address it just might get mailed back so leave it off. If the grease and everything starts dripping out the mailman'll put the whole thing in a plastic bag to protect the other mail and it'll get a lot of individual attention. So there's no way it won't get thru. It's got a lot better chance of getting thru than a postage due envelope without grease, like a postage due envelope full of rats' hairs or a postage due envelope full of dry sand. Of course it's better to give than receive but what's a body to do if he or her as the case may be receives some open tuna via the U.S. Mail? Heat it up of course. And turn on either the latest Hot Tuna album or the one before that and invite somebody up from the street to share both kinds of HOT TUNA with you and yours."
