Rosebud, Montana
November 30, 1985

Dear Sir:

Show the enclosed paper to others, make copies if
you like.

I am 51, a Paranoid Schizophrenic, High School
Diploma, Pentecostal, 6'1" tall, 225 pounds, black
hair, green eyes, and get Social Security Disability.

I was born in Forsyth and still live with my
parents. My brother Bob is a medical doctor.

I spent 3 years in the No. Dak. State Hospital and
had 50 insulin coma shock treatments. I escaped
once with a car and butcher knife and was nearly
killed by the Police.

I have never stolen, raped, or killed. A
psychiatrist, Dr. Martin Freese, said it was a
miracle.

I have had sex with over 120 women, most of them
prostitutes.

I am a very handsome and charming Virgo, same as
Alexander the Great, Ivan the Terrible, John
Wilkes Booth, Jesse James, Admiral Bligh, Emperor
Augustus, Cesare Borgia, Cardinal Richelieu,
Marquis de Lafayette, von Wallenstein, General
John J. Pershing, Louis the 14th and Richard the
Lionhearted.

In 1965, I received a batch of letters from
Wyoming school children, saying that my Buffalo
Bill song called Pahaska, was their favorite song
and was sung in class every day.

According to neurologists, I have suffered far
more than any human who ever lived, because when I
was insane, I had skeining power. Skein is found
in Goulds Medical Dictionary.

According to psychologists, I am the smartest man
ever to walk on the earth.

I would like to personally impregnate hundreds of
bright single women in order to produce a crop of
great geniuses to improve the world.

Thank you for disseminating this information.

Sincerely,

Tom Lloyd

i miss wegman's

wegman's is the only thing i've ever really missed about rochester. it was exciting how every 6 months there would be an EVEN BIGGER wegman's store somewhere with new added attractions. when i was a kid my sister and i were in the wegman's cookie club, which meant we got a free cookie every single time our parents took us to wegman's. and then there were the Great Coupon Wars with Tops -- double! triple!! coupons were like gold in those days. heady times.

one of my dad's friends was coming out of a wegman's one night years ago and saw wegman's heir d4nny wegman (who he recognized from prior bizness dealings) pissing on the side of the store. 'hey d4nny,' my dad's friend said. 'hey,' said an obviously drunk d4nny. i guess if i owned a chain of grocery stores maybe i'd get drunk and go piss on them too.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 30 December 2005 09:18 (nineteen years ago) link

has anyone been to stew leonard's? it's not so different from wegman's; it started as a dairy and now they sell all kinds of freshly made foods (along with the usual brand names). plus they make their own ice cream on-site, so if you buy enough groceries you can take your receipt up to the counter and get a free ice cream! there's one store in yonkers and two in connecticut, but i've only been to the yonkers one.

have you ever seen pittsford wegmans? it's like a disgusting amusement park for rich people. it's too much. fortunately it's also an amusement park for stealing tropical fruit and "new age beverages".

xpost i have been to ones in connecticut. i remember when stew leonard went to jail for something

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Friday, 30 December 2005 14:25 (nineteen years ago) link

Company Background

From its humble beginnings as a small dairy store founded in 1969 with seven employees, Stew Leonard's has grown to become not only the World's Largest Dairy Store, but one of the most renowned grocery stores, with annual sales of nearly $300 million and almost 2,000 Team Members. In addition to the headquarters store in Norwalk, Conn., Stew Leonard's has stores in Danbury, Conn. and Yonkers, N.Y., with a fourth store planned for the near future.

Stew Leonard's history can be traced back to the early 1920s, when Charles Leo Leonard started Clover Farms Dairy in Norwalk, Connecticut. It was a state of the art dairy by the standards of the time - with a pasteurizing and bottling plant, and fresh milk delivered daily by trucks that had plastic cows on the front that "mooed" for the neighborhood children.

In the late sixties, Stew Leonard, Charles' son, realized the milk delivery business was going the way of the horse and buggy.

He knew it was time to start something new was driven home when the state informed him that Clover Farms Dairy was in the path of a new highway. Stew Leonard's dream was to build a retail dairy store where children could watch milk being bottled, while mothers did their shopping in a farmer's market atmosphere. In December 1969, Stew Leonard's opened its doors - a 17,000 square foot store carrying just eight items.

Stew Leonard's has grown at an amazing pace - and 30 additions have since been added to the original store. Stew Leonard's has taken the fresh dairy concept and expanded into meats, fish, produce, bakery, cheese and wine. Unlike traditional grocery stores that sell an average 30,000 items, each Stew Leonard's store carries only 2,000 items, chosen specifically for their freshness, quality and value.Stew Leonard's has remained a family business. In 1987, Stew Leonard, Jr. - Stew's son - took over the reins and is now President and CEO. Son Tom opened the 2nd Stew Leonard's in Danbury Connecticut in 1991.

His daughter Beth founded the famous Bethy's Bakery and heads up the Gift Center. Daughter Jill is Vice President of Culture and Communication. The success of this family-owned business and their legion of loyal shoppers is largely due to their passionate approach to customer service: "Rule #1 -- The Customer is Always Right"; Rule #2 - If the Customer is Ever Wrong, Re-Read Rule #1." This principle is so essential to the foundation of the company that it is etched in a three-ton granite rock at each store's entrance. In order to create happy customers, Stew Leonard's is also recognized for their management philosophy: "Take good care of your people and they in turn will take good care of your customers." It is this philosophy that has helped earn Stew Leonard's ranking on FORTUNE Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For in America" list for the past four consecutive years..

Stew Leonard's was dubbed the "Disneyland of Dairy Stores" by the New York Times, because of its own milk processing plant, costumed characters, scheduled entertainment, petting zoo and animatronics throughout the stores.

The company has received worldwide acclaim for excellence in customer service and quality and is featured in two of management expert Tom Peter's books: A Passion for Excellence and Thriving on Chaos . In 1992, Stew Leonard's earned an entry into The Guinness Book of World Records for having "the greatest sales per unit area of any single food store in the United States."

Well, I mean, if what he's saying is true about that particular co-op (I'd have no idea, like I'd go to Brooklyn ha ha ha etc), I mean it's a valid complaint. IF it's true. I mean that whole thing with the queues sounds crazy, is that true? That'd make me so angry I'd probably implode on spot.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 December 2005 20:23 (nineteen years ago) link

basically i think a co-op being a bad place to shop has nothing to do with whether communism is fun or bad, he should have his card out to avoid holding up the line, he shouldn't reach over people's heads (it's rude), and crocheting doesn't make one a dullard or make one not a dullard. also he seems stressed and should calm down! i hope he enjoys the regular supermarket. he's a dullard.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Friday, 30 December 2005 20:30 (nineteen years ago) link

No, his weird thing against crochet is uncalled for and if he reached without saying "Excuse me" first that is rude. But 3 queues???

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 30 December 2005 20:31 (nineteen years ago) link

have you ever seen pittsford wegmans?

that was our closest wegmans. but when i was in high school it was still the original pittsford wegmans, which was pretty big and swanky but not nearly so gigundous. then they bulldozed it (and the chase-pitkin next door) and built that massive castle at the other end of the parking lot. it does kinda freak me out now. but so yeah i used to go there to do grocery shopping and then swing by fantastic records just across the street (which was fantasy records until saul zaentz's record label sued them for copyright infringment).

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 30 December 2005 22:15 (nineteen years ago) link

you guys need to lighten up. i have nothing against food co-ops OR unions OR any socialist whatever but i don't like the park slope food co-op cuz the store is always dirty and overcrowded and the clientele are pushy and the prices aren't even that great. OKAY?

sometimes you can take anti-union/togetherness/co-op/etc stances on certain subjects and actually be advocating a MORE socialized and, uh, MORE BETTER world, not higher capitalism. but, seriously, jody, why don't you just come out and admit you hate hippies, and togetherness, and food, and brooklyn already. it's really obvious.
