i have never been to katz's and only carnegie once in like 9th grade lol so i abstain.

i think the consensus is that no one beats katz's at pastrami, but you go elsewhere (2nd ave, for instance) for the other stuff

carnegie is garbage. I do not want to pay $18 for a nasty pile of their stank ass 3-day-old pastrami, no matter how heaping, thank you.

Carnegie matzoh soup might be better than anything on earth.

If it comes down to one solitary sandwich, I would def give it to Katz's for the pastrami.

But since Carnegies has the most awesome matzoh soup, better pickles, amazing pies and enormous piles of awesome meat, Carnegie is ultimately a better destination

But, I'm fresh off a Carnegie meal, since I always go when my folks come to visit.

katz's is so much better than carnegie it's ridiculous. granted i haven't been to carnegie in years, but i remember liking the stage deli better.

i was talking specifically about valley delis. langer's is a strong candidate for best pastrami sandwich in the world, but the restaurant is kind of a one-trick pony. (but their matzoh ball soup always cures my colds.)

Truth is that second ave knocks both these out, but I haven't been to new non-second-ave location so obv. Katz

agh, I've been looking at Katz's menu online and having mad pastrami lust.

Katz's bathrooms are indeed questionable. They make the pickles in the basement and I like that they use a confusing, arcane and punitive system of payment to fuck with tourists.

It's fun to go there and feel like you're part of something bigger than yourself, but eating a whole one of their pastrami sandwiches is just asking for trouble. It is too much food for one person. Better to go with a friend and split one or start out by getting half wrapped up to go at the counter so you don't get tempted to eat the whole thing. Last time I ate a whole Katz's sandwich I called my mom, all "ow, ow, I got meat poisoning and my blood is 99% pastrami" and she was not sympathetic enough.
