also, no filling this thread with shit like "ayo i know a place 6 blocks from daddys in a basement that has secret polish pastrami that pwns all this" because a) you're rong and b) no one wants to hear it.

should have found a katz's picture where dickhead didn't fuck up his sandwich by putting the pickle inside of it.

carnegie matzoh ball soup might be better than katz'... no judgement

Every Day Jimmy Mod Is Hustlin' (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Saturday, 29 November 2008 22:22 (fifteen years ago) link

i have never been to katz's and only carnegie once in like 9th grade lol so i abstain.

very quotatious (tehresa), Saturday, 29 November 2008 22:24 (fifteen years ago) link

i think the consensus is that no one beats katz's at pastrami, but you go elsewhere (2nd ave, for instance) for the other stuff

gabbneb, Saturday, 29 November 2008 22:24 (fifteen years ago) link

carnegie is garbage. I do not want to pay $18 for a nasty pile of their stank ass 3-day-old pastrami, no matter how heaping, thank you.

Carnegie matzoh soup might be better than anything on earth.

uәʇɹɐƃu!әʍ ˙ƃ ʎәu!Ⴁʍ (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 29 November 2008 23:21 (fifteen years ago) link

If it comes down to one solitary sandwich, I would def give it to Katz's for the pastrami.

But since Carnegies has the most awesome matzoh soup, better pickles, amazing pies and enormous piles of awesome meat, Carnegie is ultimately a better destination

uәʇɹɐƃu!әʍ ˙ƃ ʎәu!Ⴁʍ (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 29 November 2008 23:24 (fifteen years ago) link

But, I'm fresh off a Carnegie meal, since I always go when my folks come to visit.

katz's is so much better than carnegie it's ridiculous. granted i haven't been to carnegie in years, but i remember liking the stage deli better.

but nothing beats jewish deli in the san fernando valley.

I have trouble w/ kosher delis, but mebbe I give Katz's a shot for the soup why cos it look wintry out.

i've never had the soup @ katz's. i usually stick with the sandwiches, the knishes, and the hot dogs.

Traditionally, I'd vote for Art's but right now I'd go with Langer's.

i was talking specifically about valley delis. langer's is a strong candidate for best pastrami sandwich in the world, but the restaurant is kind of a one-trick pony. (but their matzoh ball soup always cures my colds.)

Realistic Replicas of Incendiaries (get bent), Thursday, 4 December 2008 01:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Truth is that second ave knocks both these out, but I haven't been to new non-second-ave location so obv. Katz

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 4 December 2008 14:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I think Katz's might beat 2nd Ave on sandwiches and hot dogs, but 2nd Ave is the all-around winner

has anyone been to the new location

ice cr?m, Thursday, 4 December 2008 15:23 (fifteen years ago) link

agh, I've been looking at Katz's menu online and having mad pastrami lust.

WmC, Sunday, 7 December 2008 18:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Katz's bathrooms are indeed questionable. They make the pickles in the basement and I like that they use a confusing, arcane and punitive system of payment to fuck with tourists.

It's fun to go there and feel like you're part of something bigger than yourself, but eating a whole one of their pastrami sandwiches is just asking for trouble. It is too much food for one person. Better to go with a friend and split one or start out by getting half wrapped up to go at the counter so you don't get tempted to eat the whole thing. Last time I ate a whole Katz's sandwich I called my mom, all "ow, ow, I got meat poisoning and my blood is 99% pastrami" and she was not sympathetic enough.
