three years pass...

imago- i've been meaning to ask u: why do u think you've had such a controversial posting history on ilx despite, to the lay-poster, appearing to be fairly innocuous? why so many bans, for instance? do you have a theory?

― Mordy , Tuesday, 23 July 2013 21:21 (8 minutes ago)

in brief: because i used to post like an irrepressible motormouthed idiot with a serious attention-seeking problem and a thoroughly deficient sense of humour nonetheless foisted into every nook of relevance, or indeed irrelevance

imago, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 21:33 (ten years ago) link

You were fearless, beautiful. They've made you like us. ;_;

the teenagers I play cricket with were reduced to tears of helpless laughter last weekend when I revealed within an episode of great gadding and tomfoolery on the sidelines that I was married

I then strode out into the middle and blasted an indefatigable 28 not out

think of that as a microcosm of sorts

imago, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 21:40 (ten years ago) link

in other words, you haven't changed all that much

xp imago, kudos to you for being able to admit that other peoples' criticisms of you were at least on some level valid. that's a hard thing to do. i don't think i've ever done something like that.

honestly, I just think it's funny when people bump cryptic "empty" threads like that TITTWIS one

treeship is much, much more controlled and self-restrained than haberdager/just got offed/arguably even country matters was

even pat finn at his outset was inoffensive and plastic

he doesn't deserve stick, at all really, although (i'd imagine semi-deliberately) leaves himself open to zings (being as they are the perverse symbols of acceptance or even fellowship)

i like 'bump' because it sounds like it's your classified ad or something, that combined with 8 years ago and a luna c post is guaranteed stupid lols for me, personally. xp

maven with rockabilly glasses (Matt P), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 22:22 (ten years ago) link

i think writing "hey!", specifically, on a long-dead thread is funny, like i am walking into an empty room expecting there to be a party there.

Treeship, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 22:24 (ten years ago) link

treesh does tart himself from time to time with those ingenuous little solecisms that will attract mild and essentially approving zings

he has the prophylactic defence of his endless 'i am not sure about how problematic these feelings/thoughts of mine might be' self-reflexity

sarahell has just motioned 'dump', quite like it mesel'

imago, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 22:25 (ten years ago) link

wtf are you even talking about xp

Treeship, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 22:26 (ten years ago) link

nilmar that is far too salient an evisceration. larval treeship deserves merely the vague fug of deconstruction, i.e. 'he's a bit gauche, knows it', y'know, radio 2 shit

imago, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 22:27 (ten years ago) link

yes but gaucheness is about not-knowing, treesh is unusual in that he tries to anticipate the 'discourse' around him and since there are so few new ilx posters these days he knows everyone wants to talk about treesh, waterface etc

lest it be unclear, i do approve of treeship on the whole

vague fugs on the sidelines

mh, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 22:31 (ten years ago) link

i'm not trying to construct a persona or even get certain kinds of reactions from people, except occasionally "lols". usually i am just sharing my opinions/experiences/whatever. i'm not "gauche" i just don't like getting embroiled in zing wars so my statements usually aren't couched in 76 layers of irony

lj quite gauche in his thirdship person assertion of gaucheness imo

mundane peaceable username (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 22:38 (ten years ago) link

imo,

there are different levels of shall we euphemistically say generosity with oneself that one can employ on ilx

an approximate metric states that the higher the level of generosity, the more that perception of time is slowed. regular ilx posting, perversely, is an antidote to perspective. 7 years on friday i'll have been here, 7 years have taught me this

"gauche" does not apply outside of ilx where i'm sure you're awesome, wise, hip, whatever

but on ilx, "gauche" is a matter of visibility and time, for the game is to post as perfectly as possible. this is not true of many websites. it is ilx's blessing and its curse

always like the way Evelyn Waugh pronounced gibberish with a hard g in the three-part(!) tv doc on him. I used to use that when training people at work and watch carefully for flickers, or on a couple of occasions, be amused at outright attempts to correct.

not that I blame them - it's a wanker's trick, but all pleasures are all we can afford in these pied times.

My sister's ex-husband's uncle used to pronounce video as 'veedeeo' and I was in a band with someone who used to pronounce demo as 'deemo'... however this was in Renfrewshire where people (used to) pronounce "seven" as "seeven", an affectation I once utilised on ILX for one of my wildly popular Bobby Gillespie skits, where Bob met Momus (Momus is from Paisley... which is in Renfrewshire).
