trying to think of what else i've downloaded from the store. a lot of stuff. pixeljunk monsters is a really fun (and super hard, they had to add an easy mode in an upgrade) tower defense game. pixelunk shooter was a bit meh.
everyday shooter is cool, if you are into the video game equivalent of an indie rock 7".

is it kinda like Rez? it's weird, i thought Rez was going to be one of my favorite games ever, but it left me completely cold. part of the problem might have been that it got REALLY hard.

I thought Joe Danger looked quite good, but the fact that it has no online multiplayer is a tremendous turn-off. Even wiiware excite bike has the online.

picked up hustle kings, along with the snooker pack. sadly I'm not convinced after a couple of hours of play.
first, they could have written some proper snooker AI to go along with the DLC so that the computer doesn't play stupid 5 cushion trick shots. also the physics are OK but they seem a little off to me - they certainly don't seem as good or as smooth as I remember virtua pool 3's being. it doesn't really feel like your cue is actually hitting the cue ball either and the cushions are a bit unresponsive. the framerate was struggling a bit on wider shots when I was playing snooker too, which was pretty disappointing - but it seemed stable when playing pool.
it looks nice and it is still fun despite the small niggles; and as I say I've only played a little

My PS3 is not currently a game system. Does anyone know how all this warranty stuff works - do I have to pay or postage to get something fixed when it didn't last 6 months?

Was browsing the online store and noticed the MLB app is free this weekend so I tried it out (very tiny download by the way). I found it pretty impressive. Not only can you watch all live games (exscept for your local blacked out broadcasts), but you have the choice of watching the home or the away feeds - and you can also watch live or start from the beginning of the game. You can also watch any game from the entire season in the archives, including your local games & you can fast forward or jump to any inning. It's all pretty slick and seemed to work very smoothly... just a ten second or so pause to get the stream rolling. The only real negative was picture quality - although it says the games are "HD," about all that means is that they're in the widescreen aspect ratio - actual picture quality is a not horrible, but it's a notch below cable SD - maybe equivalent to a two bar stream from Netflix. Anyhow, pretty cool technology worth checking out for free at least - I hope eventually similiar services are available for some other sports (I feel like there's already more baseball than I care to watch / have time to watch on regular TV... still it's vaguely tempting as I love the watch when you want type service). Maybe in another year or two the streaming quality will improve (no reason it's not Netflix HD quality that I can figure).

matt - is maybe your disc scratched up? it's harder to scratch up a blu-ray than a regular DVD, but still possible. you could try cleaning it or will netflix send you a new disc? Does everything else still play fine in your machine?

Downloaded y first rental movie from PS store last night. Three gripes:
* Went for 'play while downloading', started getting buffering messages 1/3 of the way in even though 2/3 had downloaded. Does it try and buffer to twice as far as you've got? Cause that would be fucking stupid.* Dropped back into the xmb to see what was up, from there there's NO WAY BACK to watch the film until it's fully downloaded.* Download manager should be renamed download viewer since you can't pause, stop, or do anything to your downloads.

so you have to pay two services, and it's still ad-supported.
ya, that's really gonna save them from people downloading shows from bittorrent sites.
not surprised that they locked it into the premium services (like Netflix did with Xbox Live) but the fact that it's still ad-supported did surprise me

The mandatory update also includes some video editing crap and all the necessary widgets for Move support, so there's that too.
I'm kind of surprised to find myslef coming around to the idea of Move. It's not a terribly inspiring idea, but "high precision Wiimote" isn't a bad thing, really. And there look to be a few decent titles at launch (Dead Space Extraction, Echochrome 2, Killzone 3 if that's your thing- kind of curious about FPS controls since I never really got used to playing them with a pad) and the potential for quick & dirty HD updates of the good third-party Wii games (No More Heroes, Madworld, Resident Evil 4, etc). And while everyone's raving about Child of Eden looking awesome with Kinect, possibly being the one title so far that justifies its existence, etc, I have the sneaking suspicion that performing the exact same actions while clutching a couple of Sony robodildos will be more or less indistinguishable.
Definitely not paying anywhere near full launch price, though, I'm not that easy of a mark. And the promo video they released for Heavy Rain with Move controls is spectacularly awful at advertising both the game and the control system. Yes, your girlfriend will be enchanted by creepy scenes of threatened sexual violence as she watches you punch at your TV! FUN FOR WHOLE FAMILY

For some types of games, Wii controls are great, especially with Motion+ (except that it gets out of sync sometimes), being able to do the same types of games, but in HD could be pretty nice. Like, I love Tiger Woods on Wii, especially chip shots and putting (drives kind of wear me out), but the crappy Wii graphics for the title take it down a notch... would love to have the same gameplay controls, but in beautiful HD - that one game could almost be worth the price of admission on Move for me.
Now I've heard some rumors, that like Motion+, the PS Move also goes out of sync and has to be re-synced fairly often - kind of a drag if true. The ergonomics of the Wii remote also isn't the best and the Move does look like it could be a slightly more comfortable / natural device to use.
But the main problems for me with Move remain the price, and so far, lack of compelling games (if, as I expect, the adoption rate remains low, we probably won't see a lot of games coming out designed specifically to take advantage of the controls, so it'll end up as a tacked on option at best, which is very bad). In regards to shooters, aiming and pointing at the screen with a remote is definitely better than using a joystick - however moving your character and viewpoint with the nunchuck (PS Sub-contoller?) plus the remote isn't as good as two analogue sticks, so it kind of evens out.
