The Playstation 3 is IDENTITY THEFT

Off another forum (presumably from a US blog):

The games are mostly on the older side but it's a nice lineup:

PlayStation 3

LittleBigPlanet
Infamous*
Wipeout HD/Fury
Super Stardust HD
Dead Nation

PSP

LittleBigPlanet
ModNation
Pursuit Force
Killzone Liberation

The lineup's a little bit different in Europe:

PlayStation 3

LittleBigPlanet
Infamous*
Wipeout HD/Fury
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
Dead Nation*

PSP

LittleBigPlanet PSP
ModNation PSP
Pursuit Force*
Killzone Liberation*
Asterisks can be a scary thing, but in this case, it's only scary if you're from Germany, where Sony's swapping those games for a few others, most likely due to the country's stringent content restrictions. inFamous and Dead Nation are placed with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings, while Killzone Liberation and Pursuit Force transform into Everybody's Golf 2 and Buzz! Junior Jungle Party.

As already announced, you'll also gain access to 30 days of PlayStation Plus. Existing members will simply receive an additional month. Sony will also have a lineup of "On Us" movies available to watch, too. If the lineup of games available is anything like the movies, it's reasonable to expect Sony-produced flicks.

PlayStation Home users are in for something, too, though Sony isn't saying what.

It's worth pointing out again that this lineup is for European customers and could differ in the US.

zappi just posted that

mh, Monday, 16 May 2011 23:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Wow, given that I only own four PS3 games, the chances of two of them being on the list were probably pretty slim. But yeah, already have LBP and Wipeout, and don't particularlywant any of those others. Might've been tempted by Super Stardust if that'd been on our list, bah.

JimD, Monday, 16 May 2011 23:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm thinking Super Stardust and LBP?

mh, Monday, 16 May 2011 23:31 (thirteen years ago) link

oh whoops. forgive me, not well today

百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 16 May 2011 23:32 (thirteen years ago) link

(Course, "boo hoo I don't like the free stuff I'm getting to make up for the lack of access to a service I wouldn't have used anyway over the last three weeks" is nagl. Guess I'll take infamous and r/c).

JimD, Monday, 16 May 2011 23:47 (thirteen years ago) link

has anyone played Dead Nation? looks like Smash TV from the videos i've seen.

zappi, Monday, 16 May 2011 23:52 (thirteen years ago) link

i wonder how well bribery is gonna work

well if i don't have to sign anything i'll pick up infamous and dead nation. don't really want to play dead nation but i have all the others.

jay lenonononono (abanana), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah does accepting anything invalidate your claim in the inevitable class action lawsuit?

mh, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:55 (thirteen years ago) link

almost certainly? why else would they be doing this?

Is coaxing people back to the service good enough a reason? Or am I being horribly naive?

百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 01:03 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm being kind of a dick about it cuz that's the mood I'm in; you're probably right. but i think i'm a little right too.

it is sad but their is so much beauty (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 01:05 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah tbh Sony is the last company likely to have honest motives if the past few years are anything to go by.

百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 01:10 (thirteen years ago) link

in EU

PS3 - pick 2 out of
LittleBigPlanet
Infamous
Wipeout HD/Fury
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
Dead Nation

Already got the first three :(

Doesn't PSN Plus entitle you to some free stuff from the store (like old PSX games - p sure o.g. Sonic was on there as an exclusive free game for Plus users)? Would that free stuff disappear once your free month ended?

the goon is in the gutter (onimo), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 12:31 (thirteen years ago) link

tell me more about Infamous, Ratchet & Clank and Dead Nation, pls.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 12:54 (thirteen years ago) link

I am currently playing through Infamous and I think it's great fun. Free roaming third person hero stuff where the main protagonist has somehow harnessed electrical power allowing him to zap stuff. Playing through story or side missions and collecting stuff and doing random good/bad deeds earns XP and allows power upgrades. Lots of climbing and jumping around buildings and grinding power lines.

Good thread here: come anticipate a TS w/me: infamous Vs. prototype Vs. I am alive

oh yeah, lol i got real excited about Infamous on that thread. It is good though.

Apparently this Ratchet & Clank game isn't a full release, it's a four hour mini-version or something that was made for PSN?

JimD, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:11 (thirteen years ago) link

quest for booty isn't very interesting. i stopped playing after the first stage.

jay lenonononono (abanana), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:33 (thirteen years ago) link

what a shitty list of games imo

Lamp, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:34 (thirteen years ago) link

wipeout hd/fury is worth it.

jay lenonononono (abanana), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:36 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah but presumably everyone already has it

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 15:36 (thirteen years ago) link

2nd hand copies of Infamous & LBP gonna be piled high in yr local games shop in a months time

zappi, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 16:01 (thirteen years ago) link

xpost I thought Wipeout HD/Fury sold so bad that the company who made it went out of business (or at least so badly that they were compelled to put shamefully unavoidable product placements in Fury)? I know the online playerbase was pathetically miniscule last time I checked.

in any event, it really is a shame because that game is capital-g Great.

sorry, I meant "everyone with a brain"

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 17:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Wipeout HD is indeed great (can't remember if I ever got around to buying the Fury pack) which is why imo this whole free game thing is an empty gesture to entice people back. Stacking the list with musty old best-sellers that everyone owns and now aren't worth anything is the sort of cynical rubbish that doesn't surprise me coming from Sony.

百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 22:07 (thirteen years ago) link

i'll admit i was naive and harbored hope for Beyond Good and Evil HD in this list, given that it was due to come out in "May".. :(

InFamous has to be on the list just to drum up more fans for the sequel, right?

^needs to be in this thread.

you have to get a firmware update out, right, absolutely as soon as possible. you don't have time to test it to make sure it doesn't do something bad, like maybe destroy ps3s. no time. just push it out and hope nothing bad happens. here goes...

Last night I got as far as changing my password, couldn't get into the psn store. Really very fucking close to just blowing away my Sony connection altogether.

I don't think you need to go into the actual store - I deleted mine from the account management section (or whatever the "sign in" thing turns into once you actually sign in).

I didn't even get that far. sign in with email/passwd -> "system is down"

Apparently Rockstar have changed their mind about 3.61 breaking machines. Or at least they've been persuaded to stop talking about it.

JimD, Thursday, 19 May 2011 12:55 (thirteen years ago) link

I may have mentioned it on this thread already, but my PS3 died just the way it's being described in those articles right before PSN went down. I had been watching Netflix at the time. I don't have LA Noire.

rockapads, Thursday, 19 May 2011 16:34 (thirteen years ago) link

That is weird, exactly the same thing happened to my PS3 the day before the network went down. I can't remember the exact sequence of events because I wasn't paying attention, but as far as I can remember, I put a DVD in, the machine beeped a few times and died. When I started it back up, it started fine for about 10 seconds before the slowing right down and freezing, then it was totally dead. It's out of Sony's warranty so I found a place online who said they could fix any PS3 problem, which they did. About a week after getting it back, the exact same thing happened again while playing Portal 2. They repaired it again, free of charge, and I've had it back for a few days and it seems to be ok. But by now, I'm kind of hoping it dies again so I can get a refund on the repair and just buy a straight Blu-Ray player. Had enough of it now.

nate woolls, Thursday, 19 May 2011 19:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I haven't really taken any action because I don't want to part with it, but between the busted console and the hacked PSN thing, I'm thinking about either getting a blu-ray player + apple TV and waiting for the next generation of Xbox, or just using a cheap PC for a media center and saying goodbye to consoles for good.

rockapads, Friday, 20 May 2011 02:48 (thirteen years ago) link

ps3s have always sucked as media centers. great for games, though!
