what happens when the world becomes more "dark and chaotic"? is it just a bunch more rat swarms and plague dudes? i was toying with burning thru in rambo mode to find out.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 13:16 (ten years ago) link
yup, more rats, more weepers. i think some of the ambient dialogue is 'harder', and the little princess gets bratty. it's kind of worth it.
― goole, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 13:22 (ten years ago) link
ok cool thx, that is persuasion enough for me
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 13:24 (ten years ago) link
protip: doing a violent playthru is still 95% a stealth playthru, cos the combat is legit difficult, esp against 3 or more dudes. the perk where you can backstab and make the body dissolve is key imo
― goole, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 13:43 (ten years ago) link
Chaotic/Rambo playthrough thoroughly worth it for Sam the boatman's little speech in the last level

Whoa you can possess fish
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 19:38 (ten years ago) link
yeah dude! i just used that in the mission where you have to rescue the princess from the bordello because i got the safe combo and then escaped to the outside then realized that i still had stuff i was supposed to do inside. so i possessed a fish and swam back in through the sewer. it was pretty awesome. they are hard to target though.

Lord regent tower was a total motherfucker going no kill

how much aiming is in this game? is it super precise or can someone completely hopeless at aiming play it?
― they are either militarists (ugh) or kangaroos (?) (DJP), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 20:43 (ten years ago) link
It's not Aimless.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 20:44 (ten years ago) link
depends how you're playing it i guess? doesn't seem like aiming would be an issue unless you were going all-in commando mode, otherwise you could go no-kill or snipe or knife? but i'm not that far into the game yet.
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 20:47 (ten years ago) link
there is a kind of soft auto-aim. required aiming skills are low.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 20:49 (ten years ago) link
i've barely used the gun/crossbow at all yet. i used sleep darts on the weepers in the sewer and i used the gun once when surprised by scary assassins but that's it. it feels lazy to use projectile weapons in the context of the game.
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 20:53 (ten years ago) link
i used sleep darts all the time (and remember some tough spots near the end when i was out of them, it must have been in the flooded district), but was playing stealth so i had all the time in the world to carefully aim (which i think is the secret reason why i love stealth games).

there are a couple moments where you have to aim your blink power pretty quickly tho

Ok just finished a super low chaos (fucked up and killed a weeper early on but I think that's it, although one dude might have gotten rat swarmed oops) run, and my only criticism is that the last level is just crazy crazy easy at that point. A little disappointing tbh.

Which of course means now I'm going through again murdering every dude I are.

ok this game ruled, one of the best i've played in a while, but that last level was pretty dang anticlimactic. i was ok with no boss fight but i was expecting more of a challenge getting to the dude at least. also another game where i accrued a ton of money that i never really spent on anything.
― congratulations (n/a), Monday, 22 July 2013 15:47 (ten years ago) link
anyone play any of the dlc? i'll probably go back and try to do some of the levels with no kills and never being detected.
― congratulations (n/a), Monday, 22 July 2013 15:48 (ten years ago) link
love the dlc, can't wait for the witches one next month.

― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 16 August 2013 15:10 (ten years ago) link
finished brigmore witches last night, pretty fun but anticlimactic (kind of like the main game). was hoping the void would be a full level but it was pretty much a one-scene thing.
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:34 (ten years ago) link
same here, did stealth & didn't kill anyone as usual (well, i think i assassinated the guy that the shopkeeper wanted me to take out, just to see what would happen).
the main levels felt pretty meaty, especially the second one (streets/dock/hatter hideout). the old gang leader who wants you to put him out of his misery (although doing so will gas every one in the building) was a nice decision point. i'm sad there isn't any more to play.
― festival culture (Jordan), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:50 (ten years ago) link
i tell myself i'll go back and replay and try not to kill anyone at all but in reality i almost never replay games, even ones i love
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:52 (ten years ago) link
2x, at least new games. every few years i'll still get the urge to go replay Res Evil 4 and old mario/mega man/metroid/etc games. i could actually see replaying the main Dishonored game at some point.
― festival culture (Jordan), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 22:39 (ten years ago) link
so i bought THIEF for the xbone but my wife saw it and now she wants to watch me play it, which is good, except that now i can only play it when she's around.
so i bought DISHONORED w/ all the DLC for the pc so i am going to do a HEAD 2 HEAD comparison as i never beat dishonored on console.
(thief is nowhere near as bad as reviews have it, i kinda think reviewers don't remember/never played OG thief games?)
― adam, Friday, 7 March 2014 22:36 (ten years ago) link
played dishonored on xbox, liked it, got near the end but somehow lost interest (some escape-from-sewer level seemed real unfun). however i fancy checking out the dlc, but on my pc. am i screwed by not having my savegame available or do the dlc games start from scratch with a new character?
― NI, Saturday, 8 March 2014 05:44 (ten years ago) link
I stopped playing Dishonored a couple of hours in (it was great, but I'm shit at stealth games and I had important drinking and sleeping to attend to) but IIRC the DLC episodes start totally from scratch and have you playing a totally separate character with a different set of powers.
― CAROUSEL! CAROUSEL! (Telephone thing), Monday, 10 March 2014 01:22 (ten years ago) link
I always thought the strength of Dishonored was that you could play it even with shit stealth skills. Just remember to ice dudes one at a time, and you should be fine.

hmm maybe i'll have to try Thief after all
― festival culture (Jordan), Monday, 10 March 2014 14:35 (ten years ago) link
yeah its less about stealth and lots more about strategy and timing honestly. i hate stealth games but loved the way they did it in dishonored.
― Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Monday, 10 March 2014 15:10 (ten years ago) link
so far thief is very janky and obviously not the wide-open low-res low-poly-count playground of 1998 but it is a much better stealth game than dishonored. dishonored is better for creative slaughter but i still don't like its fingerwagging moralism or whimsical whale oil neil gaiman tapdance steampunk vibe.
― adam, Monday, 10 March 2014 15:38 (ten years ago) link
thief's steampunk vibe is darker and somehow less annoying? i dunno. writing in both games is garbage, big surprise.
― adam, Monday, 10 March 2014 15:40 (ten years ago) link
sounds like you didn't play dishonored as a stealth game!
― festival culture (Jordan), Monday, 10 March 2014 16:01 (ten years ago) link
giving me all these fun tools for murdering people and then fussing at me for using them is imo a weird way to make a game/make a point about video violence and the lust for blood that lives within us as gamers or whatever.
― adam, Monday, 10 March 2014 16:05 (ten years ago) link
well that and a clever way to make you do a couple playthroughs
― goole, Monday, 10 March 2014 16:06 (ten years ago) link
i am enjoying being sneaky and not killing ppl if i can help it (have still merc'd a few in a panic, tho), but tbh i am looking forward to the prospect of str8 slaughtering everyone on a second playthrough
― gbx, Monday, 10 March 2014 16:25 (ten years ago) link
no it's a valid point, you're just a bad person, nbd. :)
― festival culture (Jordan), Monday, 10 March 2014 16:27 (ten years ago) link
really it was just luck that my play style (slow, not that good at combat, don't mind re-trying a section until i get it right) fit with the 'good' way of playing this game.
― festival culture (Jordan), Monday, 10 March 2014 16:38 (ten years ago) link
i can dig that. blink is really one of the most fun things in a game in recent memory.
― adam, Monday, 10 March 2014 16:53 (ten years ago) link
it felt very limiting to go from playing dishonored to far cry 3 and not be able to blink around.
