the solution to too many picks is to trade two now for one later apparently (granted, it's a first rounder)

its like kinda a first rounder

I.... Like the clippers draft

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 24 June 2016 03:12 (seven years ago) link

people didnt talk this much about ~wingspan~ more than a few years ago did they?

ciderpress, Friday, 24 June 2016 03:13 (seven years ago) link

where do you think the wingspan drinking game came from?

call all destroyer, Friday, 24 June 2016 03:14 (seven years ago) link

draftniks have always been all about wingspan tho

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 24 June 2016 03:17 (seven years ago) link

Memphis gets Zagorac... Odd fit imo

Didn't the Thunder let someone exactly like Oladipo walk last year in Reggie Jackson?

moistest hoist (Spottie), Friday, 24 June 2016 04:07 (seven years ago) link

they're not that similar i don't think?>

ciderpress, Friday, 24 June 2016 04:23 (seven years ago) link

http://bkref.com/tiny/HKHGp

Reggie is better probably

moistest hoist (Spottie), Friday, 24 June 2016 04:30 (seven years ago) link

so serge ibaka is now the best player for the magic

geometry-stabilized craft (art), Friday, 24 June 2016 04:32 (seven years ago) link

not ideal

geometry-stabilized craft (art), Friday, 24 June 2016 04:32 (seven years ago) link

vooch is good!

moistest hoist (Spottie), Friday, 24 June 2016 04:33 (seven years ago) link

good yes he is perhaps as good as serge ibaka and they're the best dudes on the team im just saying Orlando's master stroke must still be in the offing

geometry-stabilized craft (art), Friday, 24 June 2016 04:34 (seven years ago) link

Well Gordon is gonna be a stud too. Wonder if they'll slot him in at the three now. Think he did better at the PF position tho

moistest hoist (Spottie), Friday, 24 June 2016 04:36 (seven years ago) link

i have no idea what to make of that ibaka deal. just two years ago, ibaka was the third part of their core. adams improved play + acquiring kanter + injuries put him on a v minor slide.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Friday, 24 June 2016 04:40 (seven years ago) link

super mario can be the three now!

ciderpress, Friday, 24 June 2016 04:40 (seven years ago) link

also they still have fournier until they don't

am i the only one that doesn't mind the magic trade for the magic and doesn't really get it for okc? oladipo shot 44/34 last year and is now playing entirely off the ball? like somehow the thunder just got worse at shooting i don't get how that was possible.

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:14 (seven years ago) link

the floor spacing in these scenarios where oladipo is playing with roberson as a small ball 4 with either kanter or adams is making my head hurt

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:15 (seven years ago) link

one wld think dipos already not terrible %s wld be better w open looks on the thunder like 46/37% seems extremely obtainable particularly considering the magic were one of the worst teams for generating open looks, also not sure why u wld worry abt some rando smallball lineup, adams, kanter, kd, dipo, russ is extremely reasonable, but obvs his best skill is defense hell really help by being able to guard the opponents best backcourt player, great pickup for okc imho tho i do think they kinda shit the bed by misusing ibaka

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:31 (seven years ago) link

yeah maybe idk i guess i've never been a huge oladipo fan. i don't think backcourt defense was really at the forefront of okc's problems.

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:36 (seven years ago) link

agree dipo should get better shots, i also just think replacing some waiters/roberson minutes with dipo minutes is a really nice upgrade.

call all destroyer, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:39 (seven years ago) link

i guess they freed up some money too once assuming they waive ersan and let waiters walk but i just thought the flexibility they found with the ibaka/kanter/adams trio during the playoffs seemed really good for them and i'm not sure adding oladipo really makes up for that but we'll see who they sign as well

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:41 (seven years ago) link

i think if you switched out ibaka for oladipo in the west finals they don't get any better and perhaps a bit worse but presti's trades seem better with time so

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:42 (seven years ago) link

yeah that the ibaka/kd front court so so fn destructive against gs is my main problem w this trade, wldve loved to see that combo more, but on the other hand okc has had a years long hole at the 2 that just got filled by a solid player

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:43 (seven years ago) link

as for the draft

i thought the nuggets did pretty well. i get the concerns about murray but you have to feel like his shooting can play and even tho he's slow footed defensively i think his body might allow him to shift onto bigger players. stats people were really high on hernangomez too, and beasley prob would have gone higher had he not screwed up his career by going to FSU.

i was slightly puzzled by the suns taking both bender & chriss but that trade with the kings seems pretty great on its face. i haven't seen bogdanovich play but they turned the 24th pick in 2014 and the 22nd in 2016 into a consensus top 10 prospect, hard to be mad about that. i guess you have to feel like either one of those guys hits and if both do then dang. also bender was easily the third best prospect in the draft imo.

also thought memphis had a down low great draft. baldwin might be the best PG in the draft and deyonta davis was a guy being mocked in the mid teens (DX has him as the 11th best prospect) so getting him on a second round contract is pretty amazing.

the hawks were puzzling. i think you have to really believe in taurean prince's shooting to take him that high and idk about bembry. i guess they're getting some wings who can switch several positions on defense but idk, that franchise seems kind of adrift currently. i think they got the worst end of that 3 team trade by a pretty clear margin.

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:44 (seven years ago) link

i think what i would say about jaylen brown is that the celtics could have made a better pick (bender) but i'd roll the dice on brad stevens figuring out how to use him on the floor in a way that makes his chances of becoming a valuable nba player (in some form) more likely than if he went to... some of the other teams in the top 10

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:49 (seven years ago) link

its amazing to think how in a few short months like half of these top picks are gonna look immediately untenable

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:51 (seven years ago) link

and no one know which ones lol

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:51 (seven years ago) link

does anyone know anything about the greek guy the kings too lol vlade is really wilding

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:53 (seven years ago) link

like if bender came in and looked completely overmatch scared and clueless wld anyone be surprised, also if he had a better rookie season than the zinger

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:53 (seven years ago) link

or if brown arrives and immediately starts dunking on the entire league, or maybe if it turns out he has no idea how to play basketball

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:54 (seven years ago) link

yes lots of possibilities in play it will be interesting

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:54 (seven years ago) link

anyway i like all of the top four picks i think those were actually the best players and prob at least one of them will be a huge disappointment and some dudes in the teens will be better

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:55 (seven years ago) link

brown is so crazy athletic i have a hard time seeing him being a flat bust in the current nba

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 14:56 (seven years ago) link

i like the brown pick, i liked bender too tho, mostly just disappointed the celtics cldnt put a trade together

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 14:59 (seven years ago) link

ainge in denial that draft picks never gonna be worth more than right before it was spent

Adam KaufmanVerified account ‏@AdamMKaufman 2h2 hours ago
Danny Ainge stressed to @Toucherandrich #Celtics are not done and there's still PLENTY of time for a trade this offseason.

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 15:01 (seven years ago) link

still think they shdve taken the noel deal but maybe his health is too worrisome or something

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 15:01 (seven years ago) link

if they had a deal to get noel for the other draft picks aside from the #3 i would have done it

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 June 2016 15:04 (seven years ago) link

the deal as reported was the #3 for noel covington and two picks in the 20s

lag∞n, Friday, 24 June 2016 15:05 (seven years ago) link

yeah maybe idk i guess i've never been a huge oladipo fan. i don't think backcourt defense was really at the forefront of okc's problems.

imo this is right. roberson was v good defensively and had a game or two where he could hit shots. the success of this trade will be based on whether sabonis develops into a rotation player.
