its destiny

sully would be v solid for the nets and as such now I can only hope that another team signs him

if young slothrop don't trust ya i'm gon' rhyme ya (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 10 July 2016 23:48 (seven years ago) link

he wld be an improvement on that roster def but not really enough to move the needle imo

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 July 2016 23:49 (seven years ago) link

this was one of the weirder consequences of the sixers not fielding a real team this past season:

ciderpress, Sunday, 10 July 2016 23:55 (seven years ago) link

in the past week the Blazers have spent over two hundred million dollars on meyers leonard, allen crabbe, evan turner, and festus ezeli

i prefer to think of it as over one fifth of a billion dollars

nomar, Monday, 11 July 2016 00:18 (seven years ago) link

really starting to feel like the offseason winners are the teams that didn't do anything or only touched the max guys

ciderpress, Monday, 11 July 2016 00:22 (seven years ago) link

yuup

lag∞n, Monday, 11 July 2016 00:25 (seven years ago) link

big free agent class next year

lag∞n, Monday, 11 July 2016 00:25 (seven years ago) link

1. Lillard/Napier
2. McCollum/Crabbe
3. Turner/Harkless?
4. Aminu/Davis/Leonard/Vonleh
5. Plumlee/Ezeli

From the salary floor to the luxury tax folks

Clay, Monday, 11 July 2016 00:29 (seven years ago) link

Also there's gotta be a frontcourt trade brewing bc yikes that's a whole lot of mediocrity bunched together

Clay, Monday, 11 July 2016 00:29 (seven years ago) link

imo that is a pretty unexceptional team for the amount of $ they spent

ciderpress, Monday, 11 July 2016 01:06 (seven years ago) link

all the signings except evan turner of course are defensible imo but ya taken as a group theyre not too impressive

lag∞n, Monday, 11 July 2016 01:09 (seven years ago) link

yeah if any team is indicative of the downside of the ballooning cap and how it can hurt a team it's portland's ridiculously bad summer

Clay, Monday, 11 July 2016 01:33 (seven years ago) link

and don't forget they'll have to max mccollum prob next summer and i think plumlee will be eligible for a rich extension too. and haven't even matched whatever $50mil offer harkless eventually gets.

Clay, Monday, 11 July 2016 01:34 (seven years ago) link

yeah i think the blazers may have locked themselves into an undesirable situation. their sick backcourt means they're a player away from being really really interesting and i would have been holding out for that possibility.

call all destroyer, Monday, 11 July 2016 02:24 (seven years ago) link

they played the warriors really well and everyone is young and will get better and they (over)paid for some depth. Think they'll be fine. They're prob not gonna lure a big name so that's the next best thing. The turner overpay is p weird tho.

moistest hoist (Spottie), Monday, 11 July 2016 02:29 (seven years ago) link

I'm sure we'll find out what happened with the Turner thing at some point. I think the idea was with the extensions they're signing next summer they had to use the money now or never use it, so the FO just outright panicked when parsons slipped away

joel embiid is very large

ciderpress, Monday, 11 July 2016 02:32 (seven years ago) link

"they're prob not gonna lure a big name" is what everyone says about the celtics but i'd rather keep my options open and come up empty than spend that money on guys who will be 3/4 bench players

call all destroyer, Monday, 11 July 2016 02:33 (seven years ago) link

damn that meyers leonard contract sucks for him

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 July 2016 02:38 (seven years ago) link

crabbe or aminu gon be starting ahead of turner before the years out

lag∞n, Monday, 11 July 2016 02:42 (seven years ago) link

Meyers had his chance to prove himself last year but underperformed and then got injured

moistest hoist (Spottie), Monday, 11 July 2016 02:44 (seven years ago) link

the gap between evan turner and aminu or harkless or whoever you have backing him is pretty tiny (arguably nonexistent in this specific example) compared to the gap between turner and some actually good wing like say gordon hayward

there's a reason you need star players to contend in basketball and it's because the star players are just worth way more than the average players, it's not linear

ciderpress, Monday, 11 July 2016 02:46 (seven years ago) link

i think they're better than this but sorta wonder if the the turner contract is a suns-ish moment where the rebuild got sped up and inadvertantly gummed up the plans

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 July 2016 02:50 (seven years ago) link

that is a v good theory, something i've been stabbing at but hadn't really internally articulated

Clay, Monday, 11 July 2016 02:52 (seven years ago) link

i think dame & CJ are too good for that but they spent a lot of money this offseason & i don't see how they got better

tho ezili at less than $8 million per year is pretty nice tho

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 July 2016 03:04 (seven years ago) link

tho they do still have guys like harkless and vonleh who could get a lot better suddenly

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 July 2016 03:05 (seven years ago) link

i really don't think harkless is significantly worse than ET and could be a fair amount better

ciderpress, Monday, 11 July 2016 03:09 (seven years ago) link

they have bunch of guys w upside

lag∞n, Monday, 11 July 2016 03:28 (seven years ago) link

GOAT

moistest hoist (Spottie), Monday, 11 July 2016 14:15 (seven years ago) link

theyll be able to replace his production, but im legit worried what the locker room might be like! esp once manu is gone (i presume) next year. the true test of this team will be if they can win a title without him.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Monday, 11 July 2016 14:48 (seven years ago) link

spurs will be spurs, they won't change imo. maybe when pop retires.

ciderpress, Monday, 11 July 2016 14:53 (seven years ago) link

pop shd retire too

lag∞n, Monday, 11 July 2016 14:56 (seven years ago) link

timmy played 19 seasons and the worst one was 50 wins, that's pretty fucked up

If the Celtics had gotten kd this year it would have been funny for Tim to retire then sign with them this spring to ring chase just to be like sorry your tanking in 1997 didn't work and you got Ron mercer instead
