wow no steph all nba huh

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Wednesday, 5 April 2023 06:24 (one year ago) link

mvp embiid cos i picked him preseason also hes deserved it very close w the other two tho
6 man no idea dont care
mip see above
dpoy lol the bucks have three candidates, idk i think maybe jjj? if hes not fouling hes insanely good on that end
coy def mike brown
ROY paolo but i def like j williams game better and his last third of the season was really impressive

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Wednesday, 5 April 2023 06:31 (one year ago) link

steph just didn’t have a good enough season to overcome missing 25 games and his team being doodoo for me

k3vin k., Wednesday, 5 April 2023 14:03 (one year ago) link

jdub seems like a perfect big wing all around player but paolo has elite scorer upside, tho prob more risk there that he never becomes efficient

lag∞n, Wednesday, 5 April 2023 14:41 (one year ago) link

i like them both a lot paolo is a beast man if he maxes out he will be very tough to deal with, jdub doing basically everything well at the end of his rookie season is very impressive tho worth noting that he played 3 years of college ball and is a year and a half older than paolo

lag∞n, Wednesday, 5 April 2023 14:46 (one year ago) link

oh wow did not know

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Wednesday, 5 April 2023 15:08 (one year ago) link

yeah hes a bit of a late bloomer didnt really break out til his jr year, tho he put up better numbers in the last ~3rd of this season than he ever did in college, prob one of those guys whos just more cut out for the nba game

lag∞n, Wednesday, 5 April 2023 15:15 (one year ago) link

steph just didn’t have a good enough season to overcome missing 25 games and his team being doodoo for me

― k3vin k., Wednesday, April 5, 2023 7:03 AM (four hours ago) bookmarkflaglink

i mean statistically its one of his better seasons. my main issue is having dame in over him, they're going to play roughly the same amount of games in the end

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Wednesday, 5 April 2023 18:15 (one year ago) link

dame was just better this year idk

k3vin k., Wednesday, 5 April 2023 19:10 (one year ago) link

basic and advanced box score stuff favors dame, he was also a net positive when on the floor despite his team being hot garbage. the guards were really tough to pick

k3vin k., Wednesday, 5 April 2023 19:11 (one year ago) link

it's surprising to me that jarren's fouling isn't a disqualifier for more people... by definition, to me, you can't be the best defensive player in the NBA if you also foul the most. those two things just don't compute

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 April 2023 16:25 (one year ago) link

players like embiid and bam are averaging 35 mpg to jarren's 28 mpg... if you told either of those guys "hey go out there and play 28 mins and foul out it's all good" what kinda defense would you see from them. also their teams would die

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 April 2023 16:27 (one year ago) link

hollinger made the argument in his column that a large percentage of his fouls are offensive and loose-ball fouls…to me I’m not sure it really matters because the primary detriment of fouling a lot is getting other teams into the bonus and lack of availability. but it’s hard to argue with his rim protection numbers at multiple positions

k3vin k., Friday, 7 April 2023 16:29 (one year ago) link

embiid is like an 90th percentile defensive player, but I can’t really see the argument for him as a DPOY contender, there are just too many superior defensive players who lock in more consistently

k3vin k., Friday, 7 April 2023 16:31 (one year ago) link

danny leroux and nate duncan’s awards podcast yesterday was pretty good. they made an interesting case for draymond to be on the ballot

k3vin k., Friday, 7 April 2023 16:33 (one year ago) link

good article. honestly for me it just comes down to the fact that jokic’s advantage in offense is so much larger than either embiid or giannis’s advantage on defense you just have to give it to him (and jokic’s defensive shortcomings are a bit overblown even if they are glaring)

k3vin k., Friday, 7 April 2023 22:17 (one year ago) link

I'd prob vote Embiiid but the article makes a compelling case

symsymsym, Friday, 7 April 2023 23:11 (one year ago) link

6th man of the year: --bench players are an illusion--
rookie of the year: paolo
most improved player: brunson (sticking it to cuban)
coach of the year: mike brown will win and i don't really care so
DPOY: lopez (just a bit of fun)

I lost count of the # of times they had to stop play in the middle of a play for him to get medical attention for his bleeding arms because they didn’t call a foul

symsymsym, Friday, 21 April 2023 07:16 (one year ago) link

guess he's the second...first guy was the equally perpetually underrated mike miller.

ben gordon won sixth man as a rookie, but finished second in ROY voting behind...emeka okafor

Joel Embiid is the first Basketball Without Borders (BWB) alumni to win the Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award. Embiid participated in BWB Africa 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was coached by NBA players and personnel, including Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning. pic.twitter.com/A6nhGhddFG

— NBA Communications (@NBAPR) May 3, 2023

lag∞n, Wednesday, 3 May 2023 16:38 (one year ago) link

One thing that gets lost with Embiid because of how good he’s been and his outsized personality is how he started playing so late compared to a lot of players. It is pretty admirable that he has really continued to work on his game even this offseason he worked on his passing and cutting down turnovers.

This machine bores fascism (PBKR), Wednesday, 3 May 2023 16:47 (one year ago) link

yeah its crazy he actually has a great feel for the game which tends to be harder the later you pick it up

lag∞n, Wednesday, 3 May 2023 17:09 (one year ago) link

yeah he’s the exception to most of those late blooming big dudes it’s all the more impressive

k3vin k., Wednesday, 3 May 2023 18:11 (one year ago) link

not to mention he missed his first two seasons

symsymsym, Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:19 (one year ago) link

it's nice that they invented an award to give to marcus so we can give the defensive player of the year award to the actual defensive players of the year

J0rdan S., Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:21 (one year ago) link

marcus won the dopy fair and square (years of narative building by celtics twitter)

lag∞n, Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:23 (one year ago) link

honestly tho they should just have big man and perimeter dpoy awards so everyone gets a shot

lag∞n, Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:25 (one year ago) link

that's a cool idea. especially w/ them making all defense positionless there will prob be 1 guard per year who makes first team

J0rdan S., Thursday, 4 May 2023 17:04 (one year ago) link

Cool idea. They should do that.

Allen (etaeoe), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:49 (one year ago) link

The All-Rookie team seems solid and uncontroversial:
Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero, Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler, Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin, Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray, and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams.

The All-Rookie second team features Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren, Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason, Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey, Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr., and San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan.

aphoristical, Monday, 8 May 2023 22:24 (one year ago) link
