This is kind of nitpicky, but while I agree with the general thrust of this point, Timofey Mozgov was really not the piece that people upset about that trade were focused on at the time.

Centers are enough of a rarity and develop so much more slowly than guards and forwards that it makes sense to take time and know what you've got in a young center before using him as a throw-in on a trade.

it's still an accomplishment, post-Linsanity and what-not. he actually made JR Smith into a playable guard!

eh he was doing well with d'antoni idk, looking at his stats he's actually been pretty consistent over the years, even after taking on more minutes as a starter in nyc

consistent's not what i meant, i mean i don't think the knicks org had any effect on jr whatsoever

besides playing more minutes obviously, but he never started in denver anyway so there's nothing to compare it to really.

yeah i mean woodson didn't turn smith into a good player and then into a bad player. he's been clueless with his lineups from the get-go. he was forced into a smallball scheme that worked but he was never really comfortable with

my impression of JR Smith has always been that he's way-above-average talented and a complete uncoachable shithead.

it's frustrating to see talented dudes like that just coast but can't blame him, worked out pretty well
