I've never had luck with wr's in fantasy anyway, so I try to draft stronger in other areas.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:15 (thirteen years ago) link

I think Fever and I are on the same wavelength here -- maybe the top half dozen WRs from scrimmage have the value of Joe Schmoe WR who is also a return guy.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, but legit regular return guys are rare and prone to severe injury and most of them aren't joe schmos, they're wes welkers and joshua cribbs and devin hesters.

Johnnie Lee Higgins put up insane numbers for me 2 seasons ago, week in/week out. (I didn't play last year.) Much more valuable than even my #1 drafted WR. Who remembers that 51-point David Harris game?

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:59 (thirteen years ago) link

I remember it. MikeJonze beat the snot out of me that week David Harris tacked every player on the field at least twice.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 04:09 (thirteen years ago) link

fuck i have no idea how to draft IDPs. Are linebackers the only ones really worth starting?

symsymsym, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 04:11 (thirteen years ago) link

There are some corners and safetys and ends who get a fair amount of tackles/forced fumbles/interceptions, but linebackers are the most reliable choice.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 04:12 (thirteen years ago) link

It's a risk-reward game -- LBs rack up more tackles and sacks, but a cornerback can either come up with a big zero, or they might get INTs and pick-sixes.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 04:16 (thirteen years ago) link

RE: Josh Cribbs...you may think he's going to be a fantasy monster b/c of the points for return yardage and the fact that he's going to be more integrated into the passing game. But from what I've seen, in cases where explosive return men win a spot in the offensive rotation (and subsequently a pay raise), it usually results in two things: 1) they don't manage to make the transition that successfully b/c of the learning curve, and 2) they see their role in the return game dwindle or completely disappear altogether since coaches & management don't want to risk injury to a player that they have a lot of money tied up in. See Devin Hester.

MikeJonze, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 16:13 (thirteen years ago) link

altho cribbs was basically a starter on O last season already. he's definitely a bit of a gamble fantasy-wise for those reasons, but what else have the browns got if they don't keep putting him in at wr and kick returns? he got all their points last year.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 16:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I think I should've started Visanthe tonight.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 10 September 2010 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

wth is "fantasy with video"? also, wth is "fantasy with dots".

I like these fractional points. No more ties.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Friday, 10 September 2010 03:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha! I actually tied exactly with someone in a league last year WITH fractional points.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 10 September 2010 03:04 (thirteen years ago) link

hahaha, dang.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Friday, 10 September 2010 03:05 (thirteen years ago) link

This kinda sucks, I'm going to be on the road during the first two Sundays. But I should be able to find some time Thursday while I'm in airports to make week 2 adjustments.

Picture me ¯\(°_°)/¯ ing (symsymsym), Monday, 13 September 2010 05:17 (thirteen years ago) link

what happened on the waiver wire this morning? rex ryan express had multiple pickups processed before my first free agent pickup went through, despite the fact that the player i was shooting for was the 2nd claim to go through for him.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 16:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Are you sure you pressed the button twice to confirm your drop/add? I mean, you know what you're doing, I know, but I've been fucked that way before by forgetting to take the process all the way to fruition. Otherwise, I don't know what to do. Do you take it up with Yahoo or do I?

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 16:55 (thirteen years ago) link

no, i definitely did not pull a calvin johnson. i followed through all the way. i had five different acquisitions lined up in order of priority. brandon jackson was my #1. my second choice (brandon tate) went through, but it looks like it was after rex ryan express already made two transactions. that doesn't seem right.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Hmm, the only thing I can think is to not pay attention to the times that are shown that correlate with the waiver pickups. There's probably a Yahoo supercomputer somewhere that sorts it all and then drops players into peoples rosters in lumps instead of neat and orderly. Like, it may LOOK like rrx got all his waiver picks before you got your first, but it probably just looks that way in the list.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:09 (thirteen years ago) link

ah, i think you're right. if jackson was actually rex ryan's first choice and he got him w/ his first claim, then everything else would make sense.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link

rex ryan express here
jackson was my first choice
and at the start of the day I had the #1 waiver priority

on the subject of waivers, after the waiver deadline do undrafted (non/dropped) players still need to go through waivers to be added or are they free agents and can get picked up on a first come first serve basis? I ask because I did a drop/add of meachem for lloyd this morning and it immediately went through before my waivers started

jbn, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

There's a free agency period every week for players who aren't already on rosters or who haven't been dropped into waivers. The "official" waiver period lasts from kickoff on Sunday to Wednesday morning...after that everyone's up for grabs until kickoff the next Sunday (UNLESS a player has been dropped by someone to get a different player, or just dropped altogether...then they have their own waiver period).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 19:32 (thirteen years ago) link

thanks, that makes it clear.

jbn, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 19:58 (thirteen years ago) link

looks like yahoo also was experiencing some kind of problem in processing waivers this week. there's a message from them at the top of our league page apologizing for the delay. perhaps that's why jbn was able to pick up lloyd before all the other waiver claims went through.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:27 (thirteen years ago) link

i had won when i went to bed, but now rex ryan picked up a couple points from adjustments to move into the lead...

Picture me ¯\(°_°)/¯ ing (symsymsym), Monday, 20 September 2010 16:03 (thirteen years ago) link

frank gore is on tonight so I doubt my lead is gonna hold

jbn, Monday, 20 September 2010 16:47 (thirteen years ago) link

here we go again w/ the wacky waivers.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 12:19 (thirteen years ago) link

What's wacky?

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 18:52 (thirteen years ago) link

when i got on my computer this morning, nobody else's claims were showing. again, rex ryan's express got preferential treatment. five different drop/adds by rex ryan's express were showing, no one else's were.

i don't think it actually affected the order we each got our players, but still...WTF? why can't yahoo show all the transactions in the order they take effect?

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 19:51 (thirteen years ago) link

everyone else's claims didn't show up for over two hours. that's jacked.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 19:53 (thirteen years ago) link

Mike
I didn't put any claims for guys on waivers
all my picks were free agents who were unclaimed during the waiver period
When I checked the available players this morning the players that had waiver claims on them, like knowshon moreno and darren mcfadden, were unavailable to select as free agents.

If I had gotten preferential treatment I would have selected Knowshon Moreno and Darren McFadden instead of my wacky waivers of Hightower and Tolbert
the problem, i guess, is that yahoo doesn't list the waiver selections before the free agent selections

jbn, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 20:20 (thirteen years ago) link

guys, in the big league we discovered that Yahoo sets up the waivers so that the first person gets ALL their picks and then it moves on to the next player. You may be having a similar issue? Or not, I'm not clear what's happening with you.

Muscus ex Craneo Humano (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 22 September 2010 20:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, like jbn said, I was up early this morning too and I could already see which players had been claimed off waivers even though I didn't know who they'd gone to. All I knew is that I couldn't claim them myself, but could claim any player that had gone directly into free agency.

As for the method Yahoo uses for ordering waivers processing, I don't know. I had though it went through first choices down the list, then second choices down the list, and so on. But if it gives the first person ALL their picks before moving on, that's kind of crappy.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 22:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I get what you guys are saying and it makes sense. But I'm saying...why the hell does Yahoo do that? If it's already reflecting which players are not available to claim b/c waiver claims have been placed on them at that hour in the morning, then why doesn't it just show them in the list of transactions and have them placed on those managers' teams at that point. it's just dumb is all i'm saying. do not like.

MikeJonze, Thursday, 23 September 2010 02:03 (thirteen years ago) link

hats off to the savage mall-walkers on a pretty impressive sunday night & monday night comeback that put me away this week. brandon marshall & jermichael finley are monsters.
