that similarity is CRAZY

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 04:48 (seven years ago) link

i think the pats shut down the falcons just enough to win, i'm guessing a 38-30 win.

nomar, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 05:31 (seven years ago) link

that is really crazy how good ryan has been lately
id still pick the pats to win this, but will root atl

Falcons cuz they tore through the NFC's best teams like they were nothing

Pats also cruised but they got the Texans (lol) and the Steelers minus Bell (also lol)

Pats are probably the better team overall but who the hell wants to bet against the Falcons right now? I haven't seen an offense that looked this unstoppable since the 07 Pats.

frogbs, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 14:36 (seven years ago) link

yeah, 07 Pats had a helluva Super Bowl win that year

NFL needs to go retro. I'd love to see some coaches rocking the old school trucker hats and polyester.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 27 January 2017 23:15 (seven years ago) link

only guys trump seems unwilling to criticize besides putin are belichick and brady

trump really really really wants everyone at his rallies and every reporter to know they are really great friends meanwhile brady was mostly just trying to play golf

i get that in a normal election brady could just no comment and play football but i keep asking myself, can't he find a way to use his influence over trump for good or at least speak out against what is happening?

FREE BRADY (daria-g), Wednesday, 1 February 2017 23:50 (seven years ago) link

hmm no i personally dont think tom brady shd have to think about things

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 February 2017 00:05 (seven years ago) link

he's the guy who put a MAGA hat in his locker; super lame to be all 'what's going on in the world? i haven't paid much attention. i'm just a positive person' now

that said, he has nothing to gain by saying anything substantive and no one will care three days from now

mookieproof, Thursday, 2 February 2017 00:42 (seven years ago) link

Uh, Tom Brady is an idiot jock? Why do people think he knows about anything that isn't quarterbacking?

El Tomboto, Thursday, 2 February 2017 00:46 (seven years ago) link

Why speak and put an earldom or some other noble title at risk. Shut up and take the tax break, maybe kids can marry into trump royal fam!!

When did this ridiculous rule with advertisers being forced to call the Super Bowl "The Big Game" start? When Goodell took over?

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:07 (seven years ago) link

been that way for years

mookieproof, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:08 (seven years ago) link

lol that's wayyyyyy before Goodell man

Neanderthal, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:09 (seven years ago) link

I mean don't get me wrong, Goodell has been mostly a disaster as a commissioner, but he often also gets blamed for shit that started in the Tagliabue, Rozelle era, or even earlier

Snrub, you know it's only 'unofficial' advertisers who have to call this fascist brain-destroying whorefest "The Big Game", right?

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Friday, 3 February 2017 22:18 (seven years ago) link

fascist brain-destroying whorefest

so you have been to a Ryan Adams concert

Neanderthal, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:20 (seven years ago) link

It sure wasn't around when The Simpsons were calling it by name in several different episodes in the early 90s.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:30 (seven years ago) link

satire is protected and the simpsons were not trying to sell you goods and services relating to the super bowl

mookieproof, Friday, 3 February 2017 22:39 (seven years ago) link

it's *advertising* using the term Super Bowl they have issues with, mostly. in a way that provides financial gain

silver lining to all this is that James White, an ex-Badger, wound up pretty much being the non-Brady MVP, which as a Wisconsin sports fan gives me at least some reason to not hate all this

Shanahan takes 49ers job with Falcons' run over

just saw this headline on ESPN and initially missed the key apostrophe

nomar, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 01:03 (seven years ago) link

i just watched the full game and what struck me was definitely how patient new england was.. there wasn't some epic meltdown by atlanta.. just chipped away at it and so many things had to go right for NE, and somehow they did. man. how do you have a 1st down at the 22 and go backwards out of FG range

evil pats 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 (daria-g), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 02:19 (seven years ago) link

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 02:59 (seven years ago) link

i don't think anyone has any complaints about the fairness of this result, but current playoff overtime rules don't seem ideal

mookieproof, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:05 (seven years ago) link

i feel like they are in a good place right now. you think both teams should be guaranteed a possession?

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:25 (seven years ago) link

yeah, i think so. obviously there's the argument 'play some defense' but i'd like to see both sides forced to do so.

mookieproof, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:36 (seven years ago) link

i was honestly kinda shocked by the sudden death rules, i thought both were going to get at least one possession

jason waterfalls (gbx), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:36 (seven years ago) link

One possession each would be fair. It was clear that the coin toss basically meant game over. As much as I like the result, it's hard to argue that it's the fairest system.

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:42 (seven years ago) link

yeah the if a field goal get a second chance but not a td ot rule is kinda odd, they cld just even play a whole quarter wld that be so bad

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 22:49 (seven years ago) link

no idea why they just don't do the college way. its absolutely perfect.

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 22:59 (seven years ago) link

why not just do college rules it is 100x more exciting

k3vin k., Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:02 (seven years ago) link

lol didnt even read spottie's post, spottie otm

k3vin k., Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:03 (seven years ago) link

it really is perfect idgi

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:05 (seven years ago) link

hate the college rules, eliminates special teams.

and hate playing a full quarter, teams are already too tired at the end of 4.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:15 (seven years ago) link

but they still have field goals with college rules?

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:28 (seven years ago) link

guaranteed possession and full quarter options make ties more likely, which the league (and americans in general ime) are deathly afraid of

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:50 (seven years ago) link

otherwise they are fairest in a vacuum for sure

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:52 (seven years ago) link

i'm guessing the nfl doesn't like the way records would be broken with college-style OT, dudes throwing an extra three touchdowns because they started on the 20, etc. but they could also just declare 'these stats don't count' and give the winning team one extra point

mookieproof, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 00:04 (seven years ago) link

College OT makes stats wacky and for fantasy football, that would be kind of a thing.

The Pro OT as it is now seems reasonable, losing sudden death on a 50 yard FG seemed kinda cheap and this evens it out.

Atlanta could have gotten the ball, but it would not have mattered, that team was half dead tired and the other half had the deer in the head light look. I haven't found the replay yet of that sack Ryan took, but when he got up I swear his eyes looked as googly as that old Reche Caldwell shot for the Pats years back. Ryan KNEW he had seriously f-ed up on that sack. They could have just stopped then...the Falcons were done.

earlnash, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 00:05 (seven years ago) link

college ot is too gimmicky imo, its like u decided to play some other sport at the end of the game, like penalty shots in soccer

lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 02:08 (seven years ago) link
