Never watched before this season..good stuff. Either I have a sailor-mouth and don't know it, or slow news cycle blew Ryan's f-bombs out of proportion. Didn't seem out of hand to me. He actually seems more likeable than I'd care to admit, lol

I kinda like him, I don't know why though exactly - have you noticed how he talks to all his players like he's in press conferences. I wonder if it's because of the cameras or what. That sit down with Ocho was weird and kinda insincere.

there was one interlude where he appeared to have a cigar in somewhere that looked like it would be a no-smoking area
not clear if it was lit, but in any case the message that this is someone who will try to smoke €30 cigars in no-smoking areas and often get away with it was rather clear

now ive started watching the miami dolphins edition from two years ago and one of the subplots is this human interest story about a highly athletic former highschool wide receiver who goes back to the game after having played basketball and worked in finance, then tries to become an nfl tight end
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/06/sports/football/dolphins-take-a-chance-on-an-accountant-at-tight-end.html
so unsurprisingly he doesnt survive very long, he has bulked up but he cant block at all and get knocked over easily
which makes me wonder why didnt they just try him at wide receiver?
― tao lin commentboxing (nakhchivan), Friday, 22 August 2014 20:34 (nine years ago) link
yeah, you'd think they'd know a wide receiver can never go back to being a tight end.

finished watching the miami series from 2012
in all of these, the coaches mostly appear to be reasonable people, although the editing surely helps to humanize them
the only exception would be the ex-military miami offensive line coach who seems like an authoritarian shithead
theres a couple of scenes with jonathan martin where he is alluded to as being weird, not the right personality etc

Ryan's SI shoot and refusal to take off his shirt because he's not as ripped as Kaepernick were lol-worthy ... He came over well in the series, ultra professional but nicer and goofier than I expected ... Maybe he's just smoother in front of cameras than some of the other guys

they hoped for a lot of mileage from the rapport between him and wilfork but he entirely lacks the latter's good humour, though some of that might be the difference between a very good player and a great one with a commensurately high opinion of himself * and a developing personality cult
even his most basic repartee seemed to be processed via a rigid cost/benefit analysis of how it would further his position as alpha in all aspects
few of the other attempts to humanize players worked, eg the wide receiver who was trailed as an eccentric/livewire type in the space centre montage before he spoke nothing but shit, same for his undersized friend who barely appeared until he was cut by editor and team without giving any indication of why he was there in the first place
the head coach probably isn't an awful person but there's not a lot beyond that, the hilarity he found in the almost completely basic impression of himself by the rookie was fairly telling
