I have no idea what this is about (77 mischief, I imagine), but gr80 is gr8 , please unban.

hey I like gr80 as much as the next guy but it's kinda lame when somebody does something 100% banworthy and everybody gets all "aww c'mon, he's a bro, he gets to do bullshit things we wouldn't tolerate from other people"

the no non-77 stuff on 77 rule i totally understand and it should be enforced.

the no 77 stuff on non-77 is really only of concern to the kind of zingers that post on 77, most of whom have a pretty thick skin. so i'm not really clear on who this kind of extreme punishment is supposed to benefit.

and if the offense is weird off-ilx crepeness, this seems like a totally ott trigger-finger bedwetty definition of crepeness (esp. given the posters involved), unless something else happened.

what that explains is that the unknown anonymous poster gets tempbanned for a few days, and when they figure out who did it, they change that to 60 days?

I think I made it clear on 77 that this is 100% cleared up as far as I'm concerned and that I personally think gr8080 should be unbanned immediately.

since gr8080 seems to have some weird ilx vendetta against me, i want to start this out by saying that i was not the one who made the call on the length of the ban. that being said, i think theres some stuff that isnt really being addressed by people here.

1. the no 77 off 77 needs to either be a hard and fast rule or not. tbh a private board is kind of a massive mod policy headache as i think yall know, but there have been enough good arguments for it and uses of it that it is pretty entrenched right now imo. if thats the case, stuff like this where 77 stuff gets reposted off ilx entirely needs to be like 1000% off limits.

2. its pretty obvious that gr80 knew it was off limits, because he used a sock puppet to make the post. so it isnt as if he didnt think it was objectionable, he just thought he could find a way to do it without being caught.

3. i have no idea whether the mods as a whole are interested in any relaxation of the length of the site wide ban. i am sure that this sort of behavior (no matter who the poster in question is) will result in an absolute and irreversible ban from 77.

I don't have a problem with a single post of mine or whatever being quoted somewhere outside of ILX if it's about something non-77 and non-personal, like music or whatever. I've seen critics link to and discuss ILM offboard before, and I've paraphrased music-related stuff people have said on ILM offboard before too. It was just the context of the whole thing. But that's all I have to say, really. Unban gr8080.

Basically, I checked 77, and a user I didn't recognize at all had posted a YouTube video that was comprised of a bunch of posts of mine, a lot, if not all, of which I had posted to 77. I wasn't comfortable with all of those posts being taken off board and made into a video, especially by someone I didn't know and without my permission. So, I wrote the following request to the mods, which I think was reasonable: 77 posts used outside of ILX

That was it. I didn't ask for anyone to be banned, and I would've been totally cool with gr8080 just taking down the video.

the way I break it down is that there was no malicious intent. to me (and I saw the original) it was done just for cheap lols (and in hindsight, misguided). no harm, no foul, imo, even if rules were broken and it was knowingly done in violation of the rules.

I would be much more amenable to shortening the ban had gr8080 posted under his actual name when he put up that Youtube video; it's not like he isn't known for doing creepy weird things off-board with other ILXors names anyway (I'm sure most of you are friends with him on Facebook; ever notice the URL he chose for his profile?). The fact that he did this under a sockpuppet account shows either a stunning lack of judgment or recognition that what he was doing could most charitably be described as "shady".

People have done things like making Red Meat or Xtranormal movies out of posts on regular, googlable ILX for years; it's not particularly nice but it's never been information that was intentionally hidden from general public consumption and, as such, hasn't been acted on by any of the site's moderators. If there are more instances of 77 information being spread around the Internet without poster consent, please let us know.

Also, the original conversation among the mods was "permaban or 60 days?"

this is the assumption that I've been working on, i.e. it's pretty clear that anybody with an e-mail address can find their way to 77 with a post on the request thread. the big comfort is knowing that my posting pics of avatar porn is not going to find its way into google (hello future employers)

As much comedy gold as this thread allows, it's getting locked shortly, so:

1) To answer the thread question: No, grady is serving out the 60. markers is not responsible for this; it's a mod decision. I like grady but even i think the youtube thing was crepey. That said, it wasn't actively malevolent and that's certainly the core reason he didn't pull a permaban.
2) 77 is, for the foreseeable future, remaining a "secret" board, i.e. invite only (though the bar for an invite, at least for the moment, isn't much higher than knowing enough to ask to get in and willingness to play by the rules) and ungooglable.
3) Whenever you post anything on the web, it is no longer secret.
4) It is a major dick move to reference or republish material posted in a board that you asked to enter with the understanding that no one wants you to reference or republish material from that board, regardless of whether it's about your eating habits or your finances.

The requirements should be a minimum of 100 posts, at least five albums YSI'ed, a +1 ranking of over 50 and a username registration over three months old.

And that's just to see the pic's.

ps. Mod community is going to take a brief hiatus on accepting new 77 posters while we discus general guidelines that'll hopefully please the greatest number of people and best serve the borad.
