I love cars and car culture.

This is a board to talk about cars, the auto industry, car culture and the impact of cars on society and the environment.

HOORAY!

I'm REALLY happy this was established, because the anti-car ILXistas discouraged me from posting.

Ha, well I hope they come here too! Sometimes I hate cars and think they're a big mistake, but I also think that about society in general from time to time.

I love driving. LOVE IT. Which feels pretty shameful, since I am also a committed greenie. So I drive my Prius really really fast on the freeways and mentally justify it.

I also worked for GM (though not a car division), worked at the NHRA drags while in high school in the 1970s, attended multiple Indy 500s, and have driven ETs and twice around the Indy 500 track (not in an Indy car though). There are few things sexier than a fast car, except maybe one of those jets the Blue Angels fly.

I'm really terrible as a passenger.

two weeks pass...
I love driving. LOVE IT. Which feels pretty shameful, since I am also a committed greenie

yep. that's me in a nutshell. it's one of the many reasons i'm in no hurry to upgrade my trusty (and fast, and fun, if not desperately sexy) 1997 mitsubishi colt GLX (pic coming soon to the pic thread): i can't really justify doing so on any grounds, but claiming the environmental high ground stops me feeling mean for just not wanting to shell out the cash (or overly sentimental for just not wanting to get rid of the car, which i absolutely adore.)

i can also witter vaguely about how being an advanced driver means i'm driving in the most environmentally friendly way possible (sticking to the speed limits HEM-HEM, using gears properly, engine braking, using good observation to anticipate hazards and take action early rather than having to brake a lot, etc) but that's a bit of a cop-out too. whatever. my name is grimly and i love driving, and like cars a lot.

anyway. hello, this board.
