nice dude! will you go clipless? for me?

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 18:32 (fourteen years ago) link

are clips bad

luol deng (am0n), Thursday, 19 November 2009 18:43 (fourteen years ago) link

niiiiiice

I'm going clipless soon

coz (webinar), Thursday, 19 November 2009 19:46 (fourteen years ago) link

v nice eman

cutty is right, you should get some clipless if only for those times you want to go on a long ride that is not just A-->B (i wear bike shoes all the time, but they're still inferior to real shoes for non-biking comfort, which is why i've got comfy slip-ons at school)

or just do what a lot of ppl do and ride yr street shoes on yr clipless when yr just getting around. it's really not much of a pain when you get down to it

itdn put butt in the display name (gbx), Thursday, 19 November 2009 19:52 (fourteen years ago) link

also most clips/straps just get mangled over time, and are generally a pain

itdn put butt in the display name (gbx), Thursday, 19 November 2009 19:53 (fourteen years ago) link

i'll look into it at some point. not really looking forward to learning how clip in and out without falling

luol deng (am0n), Thursday, 19 November 2009 19:58 (fourteen years ago) link

you can do it. you're a smart boy.

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 19:59 (fourteen years ago) link

lol

or just do what a lot of ppl do and ride yr street shoes on yr clipless when yr just getting around.

that would be good. do most clipless pedals allow for that? obv the eggbeater ones don't

luol deng (am0n), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:00 (fourteen years ago) link

nice dude! will you go clipless adjust your saddle? for me?

bitter about emo (Hunt3r), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:01 (fourteen years ago) link

(unless nose down really really works for you)

bitter about emo (Hunt3r), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:01 (fourteen years ago) link

ya it was pointing up at the store and hurting my weenis and taint so i had them adjust it but they went a notch to far i think

i will always rep for "what works for you." except for plastic reflectors on spokes.

whomi kidding, i got a list of the forbidden shit.

congrats on bike

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:07 (fourteen years ago) link

also if there are reflectors on those pedals. take them off! buy some knog lights.

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link

I have two pairs of bike shoes, one that look like trainers and have a deep recess and can be walked around in. The others are pretty rigid and hard to walk in. (I wear through a set of cleats in the walking shoes in about 2 months).

I keep meaning to go to the machine shop to build a clip in platform for my pedals.

bitter about emo (Hunt3r), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:11 (fourteen years ago) link

thx Hunt3r. got a proper fit this time and the difference is huge.

also if there are reflectors on those pedals. take them off! buy some knog lights.

are u joking or ? a co-worker recently got ticketed by baltimore's finest for riding (a freestyle bmx) at night w/out a headlamp. had no idea about that law. aren't rear lights more important??

luol deng (am0n), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:15 (fourteen years ago) link

what joke? get knog lights for the front and back. white and red LED.

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:17 (fourteen years ago) link

i would never ride at night without flashers. but reflectors are in the realm of kickstands. utilitarian but avoid like the plague.

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:18 (fourteen years ago) link

I prefer solid beam to flashers, but would rather have both.

lol i never even noticed them down there. there's even reflectors screwed to bottom of the clips

THE MAKING OF am0n, ROADIE

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't know, as far as I've seen reflectors are much better for actually being visible than knogs. Reflectors show like crazy if you hit them with headlights, and knogs are just so pathetically weak.

Dan I., Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

(should go without saying that this is all on top of a set of "real" lights, like a Planet Bike Superflash or something)

Dan I., Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:30 (fourteen years ago) link

the knog bullfrog is a pretty strong rear flasher

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:31 (fourteen years ago) link

second on superflash, v. good.

my 13 y/o front halogen system is on its last legs, so i got a dinotte

bitter about emo (Hunt3r), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:34 (fourteen years ago) link

la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:38 (fourteen years ago) link

3rd the planet bike superflash.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:40 (fourteen years ago) link

superflash ownes, i love mine

and yeah, stay away from the tiny eggbeaters. they make platform/eb hybrids, but they're hueg.

my atacs are fine for short jaunts

itdn put butt in the display name (gbx), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:42 (fourteen years ago) link

don't fear spandex

coz (webinar), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:43 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm sold

itdn put butt in the display name (gbx), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:45 (fourteen years ago) link

tho my saddle is finally broken in/positioned properly and it's kinda amazing how nice it is in street clothes (except jeans, which will always suck for biking)

itdn put butt in the display name (gbx), Thursday, 19 November 2009 20:46 (fourteen years ago) link

kinda surprised some hipster bike company hasn't added stretchy jeans w/smooth lycra crotches to the list of technical knickers and 'urban' bikewear

prob cuz they'd look like you were wearing horrible denim/lycra chaps, but still
