nice! I want a road bike w/ similar lever setup i've recently decided.

wilter, Monday, 15 June 2009 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't really know much about bikes but it rides pretty well imo. It is a Fuji in case you can't make out the badge. I think it was like $25 at the flea market (got a new saddle though).

cutty, Sunday, 21 June 2009 20:19 (fourteen years ago) link

whatevs have fun

stem nothin'! you should see the pedals!

appears to have been untouched in any way by original owner since leaving the shop. stem's due for a flip, pedals due to be melted down for scrap.

probably not as bad as it looks but I had to do a lot of adjusting (this was right after I installed it)

the kickstand!

This just goes right over my head. Is there something weird about that kickstand, or are kickstands just lame in general?

cutty, Monday, 22 June 2009 11:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Very elegant bike, I like it.

Sometimes I wish I had a kickstand. Loading up with groceries with the bike insubstantially supported by the poxy racks outside the store I have lost the whole bike tumbling over with egg related disasters into the bargain.

Can't bring myself to fit one though, which is crazy because I already have baskets and it would make loading at 24-pack so much easier.

Mornington Crescent (Ed), Monday, 22 June 2009 14:26 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm surprised my bike passes muster with such aficionados! It rides like a dream though; I've just got to get a handle on shifting.

Virginia Plain, Monday, 22 June 2009 22:42 (fourteen years ago) link

my experience with kickstands is that they arent robust or stable enough to be really useful. or the ground isn't level, or it's dirt, etc. it seems like those antique flickstands that lock up front wheel wheel would be more helpful for reliable leaning, tho ive never used one. i dont think they even make those anymore. /oldster

iro with the brown bag (Hunt3r), Monday, 22 June 2009 23:18 (fourteen years ago) link

two legged motorcycle-style kickstands are the jam, but they shouldn't be on anything but a classy town bike or like a surly big dummy

it's hilarious to look at cannondale 'concept bikes of the future' that they said would come out around now... apparently, bicycle design took a different tack.

No bike, just traffic.

It's a Fuji set up as a single-speed. I am poor and so the grip tape has electric tape patching it up and the crank has a crack in it and the light on the front is tied on with kitchen twine. I'm sparing you.

bamcquern, Friday, 3 July 2009 04:11 (fourteen years ago) link

But I can pick it up with my pinky and I guess that's my criterion for Will Ride.

bamcquern, Friday, 3 July 2009 04:11 (fourteen years ago) link

My friend has a single-speed I could pick up with my pinky. Kinda jealous, as I stood on the scale holding mine, then not holding it, and there was a 27 lb. difference!

It's a jalopy, but it's my jalopy!

naus, Saturday, 4 July 2009 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link

It's a very attractive "jalopy."

I got a new gear for my crank today and it's bigger. I'm not used to it and I wonder if I ever will be (huff, huff, wheeze). I'm pretty sure I'm faster, though.

bamcquern, Saturday, 4 July 2009 07:13 (fourteen years ago) link

that's a hot jalopy

Los Blue Jeans: Wow, what a coincidence! I just bought that exact same blue mid-80s Fugi Pulsar (ladies edition) for my gf so that she could keep up with me on my own ancient road equipment. She likes it just fine.

Like the pink, but where are your brake levers???

Teh Movable Object (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 19 July 2009 20:00 (fourteen years ago) link

There's ony one, on the underside of the right top (this is the fixed gear bike). The lever's a bit annoying tbh - I want a smooth, more ergo, longer one really. In pink :)

looks like that but with road tires

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 19 July 2009 20:30 (fourteen years ago) link

What did you have before? My friends with Tricrosses speak very highly of them.

Mark C, Sunday, 19 July 2009 20:34 (fourteen years ago) link

a 2004 sirrus, so i guess it's an upgrade and i shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth

http://camworld.org/images/sirrus_bike.jpg

still, there was something about monochrome that i found a lot more appealing

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 19 July 2009 20:36 (fourteen years ago) link

I guess it depends on the (relative) specs, but it should be interesting to compare the two. Are you stuck with the Tricross or will you be getting a permanent replacement Sirrus (or other)?

Mark C, Sunday, 19 July 2009 20:41 (fourteen years ago) link

"stuck" with the tricross - i have no idea why they didn't replace it with a sirrus frame but that's what i got

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 19 July 2009 20:43 (fourteen years ago) link

sorry but i prefer the tricross

cutty, Sunday, 19 July 2009 21:13 (fourteen years ago) link

you could probably sell the tricross and buy a used sirrus in mint condition and have lots of cash left over?

mrs h's commuter/errand bike. i bought 93 vintage specialized hybrid frame/fork/headset--$20 on craigslist. i had to buy a saddle, seatpost, tires, and rack, but everything else was in my junk bin. rides great. looks...well, its an abomination. you cant have it all for $100. weird stem/seatpost config necessary to fit super long legs/short torso.

super long legs/short torso

pics plz (sorry)

Bike looks fine, though. Is it a trick of perspective or is the back wheel bigger than the front?
