four weeks pass...

231 for September.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Saturday, 3 October 2015 04:51 (eight years ago) link

138 mi. on trainer, it's so dif from how I've ever done it. I can read, really watch tv or surf...there is like, no objective happening with the bike but the 'just keep going easy.' Z

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Saturday, 3 October 2015 12:47 (eight years ago) link

How are you now?

Let's go, FIFA! (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 3 October 2015 19:51 (eight years ago) link

OK, thanks! basically, trying hard to recover many bits of normal life, but it is not an easy recovery, physically or mentally.

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Saturday, 3 October 2015 23:55 (eight years ago) link

All the best, stick in there.

387 for me for Sept.

Let's go, FIFA! (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 4 October 2015 20:18 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, all the best dude. I have no idea what happened beyond what you've said here, obviously, but if it's as bad as it sounds and you're back on a trainer already that's good going, I think.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 5 October 2015 08:31 (eight years ago) link

three weeks pass...

32 miles on Sunday morning took me to 2,001 for the year so far, meaning I've hit the post-baby target I set for myself. Admittedly, a huge chunk of those miles have come as commuting rather than epic weekend adventures, but beggars can't be choosers.

Is it possible to get another 500 done before the end of December, I wonder?

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 26 October 2015 10:44 (eight years ago) link

Just under 300 for October, but my end of year slump has arrived now - all enthusiasm for cycling is draining away as the weather turns...

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 2 November 2015 08:26 (eight years ago) link

167 for October.

It's probably not possible to get 500 more before year-end; my weekends are massively booked-up this month...

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 12:01 (eight years ago) link

343 all indoors and good god it's not fun for me anymore

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 17:48 (eight years ago) link

How are you doing?

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 22:11 (eight years ago) link

Holding in there, lots of steps, thanks. Physically, I'm improved but parts of the damage are kinda, just done, you know?

Strava shows my first real independent ride today, as I had to drop off my ballot. Doc and therapists signed off on riding ability yesterdy. Between the need to actually deliver the ballot, and the facts that I could bikepath the whole 10 miles and also that 75 f'ing gorgeous degrees goes away after today (maybe til next May), I was committed to riding.

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 3 November 2015 23:17 (eight years ago) link

four weeks pass...

239 for november

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 1 December 2015 23:20 (eight years ago) link

Didn't manage many miles in November but did enough to get over my 2015 target of 2,015 miles, though disappointed I didn't hit it earlier.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 00:34 (eight years ago) link

305 mi. Just got bad clavicle repair news :( more repair required.

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 2 December 2015 01:12 (eight years ago) link

Hang in there

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 2 December 2015 10:08 (eight years ago) link

59 miles in November; a couple of busy weekends and a 2-week stomach bug.

And yeah, hang in there; more repair sucks but it does mean repair which = getting better.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 11 December 2015 11:38 (eight years ago) link

two weeks pass...

196 for December giving 4,416 for the year. Not as much as last year, but my second best total by some margin.

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 31 December 2015 12:53 (eight years ago) link

238 for Dec, 4433 for year, but the mileage it really got to me this year

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Thursday, 31 December 2015 16:15 (eight years ago) link

one month passes...

286.5

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 1 February 2016 23:07 (eight years ago) link

Zero, I think. Or close to zero. On January 7 I played my first game of 5-a-side of the year, and with about ten minutes to go I twisted / hyper-extended my right knee. It is still swollen, nearly a month later, and I have an MRI scan tonight to try and figure out what I did to it. I've been told to cycle to aid recovery but it's been so wet and windy I've not thought it was safe to do so yet; any risk of a fall and aggravating it when I'm injured and not confident just sin't worth it.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 3 February 2016 10:55 (eight years ago) link

Ouch

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 3 February 2016 22:57 (eight years ago) link

Take care man, hope the scan went well.

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Thursday, 4 February 2016 02:24 (eight years ago) link

So the MRI scan shows cracked cartilage and a slight tear in the medial ligament, suggesting that I dislocated and immediately relocated my right kneecap. Fun times. Told to get back on the bike as soon as I'm comfortable, which is basically as soon as these fucking hurricanes stop.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 14:23 (eight years ago) link

There aren't normally this many storms, are there?

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 11 February 2016 00:18 (eight years ago) link

I think the fact that they're named now makes it feel like there's more. But yeah, this weather is shite.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 11 February 2016 19:44 (eight years ago) link

Been told not to ride up hills. Knee still swollen. Next specialist reckons it might be ACL now. Fun times.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 25 February 2016 10:19 (eight years ago) link

:-(

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 25 February 2016 22:11 (eight years ago) link

Take care man, time and therapy and docs if necessary, you'll get through.

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Friday, 26 February 2016 04:21 (eight years ago) link

419 for February. Feel almost guilty saying it, seeing as I seem to be the only person left not struck down by physical calamities.

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 09:13 (eight years ago) link

191.9mi in feb

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 16:04 (eight years ago) link

feb 16 - 118

this wet weather can fuck up

one month passes...

I forgot to do March because I was on holiday. I will rectify this before too long and all will be right with the world again.

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 19 April 2016 12:21 (eight years ago) link

I rode my bike for the first time in fuckin forever on sunday

:-)

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 01:57 (eight years ago) link

i have learned that the gearing on my road bike just is not suited at all to the hills around here. i dumped all of them into my granny and was still having to stand on the pedals while my pals were happily spinning away at 95rpm

biking is hard :(

jason waterfalls (gbx), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 11:45 (eight years ago) link

shoulder pain on one side only... what could be cause of that? stem too long? saddle-to-bar drop too high? odd it's on one side (left) only

any ideas?

cozen, Wednesday, 20 April 2016 18:39 (eight years ago) link

Don't know, but I've been suffering knee pain on one side (left) only. It keeps clicking when I properly extend my leg.

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 20:10 (eight years ago) link

Finally calculated it - March was 334 miles for me

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 21:04 (eight years ago) link

My knees have clicked like a hipster at a jazz club since I was a teenager.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 21 April 2016 11:38 (eight years ago) link

Gbx does Hurricane mtn Rd still exist because I did that in 1990 and it was steep.

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Thursday, 21 April 2016 16:09 (eight years ago) link

The best thing about eastern mtns was that 'wtf is a switchback' spirit.

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Thursday, 21 April 2016 16:11 (eight years ago) link

dunno about hurricane mtn rd, but the general theme out here definitely seems to be STFU (straight the fuck up)

i've got big-boy gears on my road bike (53/39 up front and i think the biggest cog is 25t?) and that was fine in minnesota and really not that fine out here. tryna decide if i should just flip the road bike and put the money into my heavy but dependable cross check

two weeks pass...

Just 242 for April. Too much work on, can only get out once a week nowadays.

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 6 May 2016 21:57 (eight years ago) link

I'm not even on 500 for the year yet. Fucking knee. Still no hills. Manage maybe 40 a week at the moment - about 10-15 commuting and then maybe 25 at the weekend pulling the trailer normally.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 10 May 2016 08:22 (eight years ago) link

three weeks pass...

342 for May. It's my half-term break this week so I'd been hoping to get a few rides in, but the weather is shite (40mph winds and heavy rain yesterday, no sun forecast until Sunday). Did a time trial last night on the velopark circuit (next to the Olympic velodrome) with both shoes feeling like they had a jug of water sloshing around inside them: https://youtu.be/87ZOBTVsGbo

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 1 June 2016 08:25 (seven years ago) link

128 for May, lowest since I spent August in the hospital. Not much comment other than I fear I'm ending biking? Probably not totally, but ~effectively~?

Sort of off topic, but affecting my bike attitude is the Broeckx thing, which is so sad, and really close to home. Was so hoping they wouldn't need to craney him, which I am guessing was the pressure reduction. I was trying to get Dutch news and Google's translation rendered the headline to be "Broeckx undergoes double lobotomy" and I was just "!!!!??"

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 1 June 2016 16:20 (seven years ago) link

Not good.

Lionel Richie the Wardrobe (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 1 June 2016 18:10 (seven years ago) link

422 for may
