Yeah I'm over terrible 80s retro fashion especially because kids are taking the WORST PARTS OF IT (bad sunglasses, horrible fluro colours, ill fitting tight jeans, stupid hair) and ignoring all the fine 80s new wave stuff that looked awesome, but I am hating kids that age getting defensive and stroppy at me for mocking them, even more so.

I dunno, I'm thinking about things like pirate shirts and velvet knickerbocker pants... the more elaborate, elegant side of the new wave stuff. Duran Duran/Human Leage/David Sylvian kind of thing. Yeah there's people doing that too but not many.

Oh I do wear bad sunglasses still. But with reasonable hair and muted colors!

I'm still ok with skinny jeans in other contexts

did they used to look better? were they cut different? i was wondering about this because i don't remember earlier iterations having quite the same ghastly effect (i.e. making skinny people look like famine victims and everyone else look like spongebob).

I'm actually ok with the cut of, say, the Levis skinny fit jeans, it's just the combo with the sort of oversized untucked plaid shirt (and the ray bans when outdoors) that I don't need to see anymore.

indie spare (electricsound), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 00:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I wear skinny fit jeans because I think I look really dopey in straight fit, which I used to wear. Too much fabric flapping around!

44. Skinny jeans on guys that are deliberately designed with a saggy, hanging-down arse area, worn so the entire underpant butt area is visible.

more of an annoying thing than a fad, but it's another way for luddites to be all smug about how much they "don't need" technology. (nothing against luddites, just don't like the smugness. i don't "need" facebook either and i'm not impressed that you're not on it.)

Bae

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 22 July 2014 02:42 (nine years ago) link

I had my kids do a last day of school activity where they made a poster correcting a common mistake they do in writing or see in their classmates'. One guy drew a giant frowny face and under it wrote "why does everyone write bae instead of babe?" like full of genuine confusion.

when you call my name it's like a prickly pear (Crabbits), Tuesday, 22 July 2014 14:38 (nine years ago) link

Wait I 100% legit thought "bae" was meant to represent "boy" said in a comedy Scottish accent
