xxpost It's a message board, not workplace chatter. You don't have to pretend you're trying to keep up with this thread.

Maybe the idea of someone ejaculating those words after actually realizing that they're on a message board. It reminds me of that Victor Pelevin book about the minotaur myth where they're all in a chatroom, except in that book they're pretty aware they're in a chatroom right from the start.

Groceries first, then minigolf. But minigolf got canceled. I'm watching a movie instead.

It's okay. Katie's tired and she lives across town. This is the second time in my life I've lived this close to a minigolf course.

I went to this family-owned place all the time when I was a kid. it had heart! and to this day I'm disappointed at any mini golf course that isn't all twee and rustic and handmade.

somtimes when i see thist hread title i think it says farts or fags

NEW YORK DESERVED 9-11 (cankles), Thursday, 12 November 2009 04:02 (fourteen years ago) link

"more of an annoying thing than a fad, but it's another way for luddites to be all smug about how much they "don't need" technology. (nothing against luddites, just don't like the smugness. i don't "need" facebook either and i'm not impressed that you're not on it.)"

Two questions arise:

1) How do you know they're 'bragging'?

2) Isn't it possibly just a tad presumptuous to assume they give a rat's tossbag whether or not they are impressing you?

Fred Nerk, Thursday, 12 November 2009 07:58 (fourteen years ago) link

fel (latebloomer), Thursday, 12 November 2009 08:03 (fourteen years ago) link

(yes they are almost definitely bragging)

fel (latebloomer), Thursday, 12 November 2009 08:05 (fourteen years ago) link

I met a 20 year old girl who said she wasn't on Facebook and I think she thought it was a virtue, but it wasn't annoying or very braggy. People mention it in conversation. I guess it seems a more pertinent comment than the I-don't-have-a-tv comment, because people have grown up with tv usually and know what it is, but Facebook seems more of a trend, like, "I haven't tried it yet, this is why." Some people blurt things out. This was a very talkative girl.

bamcquern, Thursday, 12 November 2009 11:38 (fourteen years ago) link

I deleted my FB account. Not so much because I want to appear above it, more that I simply don't have time anymore and was only using it for Lex/Scrabble. I do miss it, but I won't go back.

Has anyone mentioned chick lit? Hate the term.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 12 November 2009 12:53 (fourteen years ago) link

until a few months ago, if Facebook came up in conversation, I might have mentioned that I didn't have an account because a few years ago I went and killed all my social networking accounts due to privacy concerns. I finally buckled and signed up for it. I was wrong about it... the whole "wall" function, and the ability to read it on my cell phone, makes it something new entirely. Something that sucks.

Buck Utah (rockapads), Thursday, 12 November 2009 15:52 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't think "not needing" technology has anything to do with the vast majority of people who aren't into Facebook.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 12 November 2009 16:02 (fourteen years ago) link

i deleted FB because it was making me hate a lot of mostly nice folks who were acting like fucktards and saying smug awful things. it was like 15% fun max.

194. Beards. And it sucks, because I wear a beard. I have had a beard for most of this decade, and I feel naked and weird every time I try to shave it.

i shaved my beard for the first time in four years. and it was a big big big mistake.
